5711/1r
In a bit of a dilemma, my AD has offered me one that is turning up tomorrow and I’ve always loved the look of it in photos - never seen one in person but I had a 5711/1A and whilst I loved the look of it I found it not getting much wrist time due to the thinness and weight making it feel fragile so ended up being replaced by a 5980/1A which is worn regularly.
My current collection is PP 5980/1A, AP 15400ST, Rolex Daytona 116500ln, Rolex Submariner 116610lv, Rolex Submariner 16610 and a Rolex Yachtmaster 16622. Should I add the 1R? Will it cause the same concerns as 1A? |

u have no PM model?? if not, take it! if ur issue with the steel model was that it felt too light, then u certainly won't have that with the rose gold.
and if u don't, send me the AD info my way as i will gladly take it at retail! |

Weight probably was the issue so think I’m going to go try the 1R on. |

I’m fairly sure like with the 1A I will fall in love with the look of it but hoping it maybe feel less fragile and therefore get more wrist time. |

PM just isn’t for some people. I love PM sports pieces on the internet, but hate them on my wrist. Pretty certain I’ll never own a PM sport piece, gold is reserved for leather strap dress wear.

I sold my DD2 for a 5711r so I strongly suggest you do the same, has a lovely weight to it, around 180grams, so between Rolex SS and PM.

I have both the 1A and the R. The R is a different animal. Worth picking up. Especially since its selling over retail too.

I tried it twice at my AD, once in December of last year and once in Feb of this year. Nice watch, no doubt. Good weight, amazing finish and phenomenal dial color.
Offered a 12% discount both times. I would have bought it if I were into all yellow/rose gold timepieces. I don’t believe they are hard to find and don’t know why they are being listed here at a premium. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

i'll throw an idea here, sell your 5980 steel and buy the 5980R. Hot two birds with one stone.

not a chance today in the UK. Im skeptical of any country where its being discounted as AD's know its selling for a premium.

It is still possible to get a discount if the shop already has the model in stock. I have been offered discounts ranging from 10-15% for some annual and perpetual calendars without any negotiation

I had a hard time at a london AD getting them to budge on a 5170G. I didn't want to buy it, i was just seeing what they would sell it for. I do suck at negotiating though.

I have never been offered a discount for a Nautilus model. Few months ago I saw a 5711R in a window but never asked as I was not in the market for one.

Isn't PM more delicate than SS especially in the HH world? I would think that this would make reserves just as much as the lightweight feel of the 5711 in SS

I do the same, it I don’t want, I don’t bother. If it’s a watch I wan’t and it’s in stock in the case or a window, I always try to get a discount. Often I get push back with the usual sales tactics, but I always try. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well, the r will solve the weight problem you had for sure. I think it's a stunning watch, love the dial colour and from having it on the wrist a few times at the AD it's easier to pull off than a RG Day-Date for example (just less metal all round and less in your face).
It was still too much gold for me, it would never have been a watch that I could easily wear and so for that reason I passed. Do you see yourself wearing that amount of gold regularly (or at least enough to justify owning it)? |

I’d try it, it’s a great piece I thought it had good wrist feel.

Thanks all for the input. I think I will go and try it and decide form there.
If not I know there are plenty of uk members that would love to get it. |

i think the 5711r is the most beautiful rose gold piece out there. if i was going to own a PM piece in RG it would be that watch. for $50-60k its pricey but I feel it would almost be worth trading a few pieces to get it. so lovely, but i would feel a bit worried wearing it around since its so expensive.
