Torn between two watches as my first Rolex

Hi guys,

I am currently saving for my first Rolex but i've run into a bit of a conundrum that I was hoping I could get your opinion on.

I am torn between the new Rolex OP 39 114300 (black dial) and the SubC No Date 14060.

What is adding to my situation is that I currently own a Omega PO 2500 (orange dial) which I have had 12 years. The watch has been my one and only and carries a lot of sentimental value. It wasn't a gift, but has been on my wrist for alot of big experiences in my life.

If I'm being honest, the Submariner has always been my dream watch. However, If I purchase the sub, I would sell my Omega to fund it as I don't want to own two dive watches. I also know, that the PO wouldn't get much love compared to the Suband I don't want it to sit around and collect dust.

If I purchase the OP 114300, I wold keep the Omega and rock a two watch rotation. I could see the OP taking the majority of wrist time as I work in an office environment. The Omega would be my casual, weekend watch.

Sentimentality indicates I should keep the Omega and buy the OP. However, I feel like I would always dream about the Sub...

What would you guys do?

I would love to be a one watch guy honestly.

If I were you, I’d go for the Sub. It’s a classic that never gets old. Plus you’ll always be thinking about it if you don’t.

Get the Sub. You will end up getting it anyway. I can tell by your post that it is your "dream" watch. I am biased though as Subs are my favorite watch of all time. While I dig Subs from all eras the modern version with the glide lock is just a great watch to wear.

I would for sure go with the sub over having an OP and PO, just out of preference.

Overwhelmingly you will hear Sub, and I agree as well.

I was in a similar situation. I ended up with the 114060. The OP39 is a beautiful watch though. Have you tried on both?

Scratching three inches away from the itch is never as gratifying as scratching the itch.

However, memories associated to your PO will never be replaced. You can store it away and create new ones with your Sub.

This one is tough if sentimentality wasn't in play. If it wasn't, obvious answer is Sub. The OP is gorgeous though - just tried it on last weekend and loved it, perfect size.

Can you swing buying the Sub and keeping the PO? Maybe just save a little longer. I know you said you don't want two dive watches but every now and then you'll put on the PO and smile because of the memories you've created with it. That alone to me is worth keeping it.

FWIW, I'm in the same boat. On list for a 116610LN and have a Breitling Superocean Heritage. I got married and had my first daughter wearing that watch, but debating selling it to partially fund the Rolex. End of day, I think I'd miss it when I see pics of those ocassions with me wearing it.

Anyway, tough choice. Good luck and make sure to let us know what you pick!

I’m in the minority here. Your OP read to me like you want to keep your Omega (I kept my Seamaster of 14 years and am sincerely grateful I did) and you will see Subs everywhere you look. Get the Oyster Perpetual and get rotating. It’s underrated and unusual.

All I can offer is to tell you I recently reduced my Rolex "collection" to one watch, a Sub 114060, the newer version of the 14060 with a ceramic bezel. It's the perfect watch for me, a watch that I'm comfortable wearing in nearly all situations. I admit that the OP would also be a good one-Rolex solution, less sporty and more dressy than the Sub. Between the two I prefer the Sub.

You said the words Submariner and dream watch in the same sentence, sooo...
Submariner, no question. And don't sell the Omega, you will likely get peanuts for it and then regret it. The tiny bit of money you'd get for the PO, you could just wait a bit more and generate the funds. Who cares about two dive watches. I'd have three if I could.

Ps: Short story. Had a PO similar situation, sold it for a 16600, goodness do I miss that watch. #regrets

I'd keep the Omega - sentimental value.
My first watch is a Tudor - and unless I have to, I never plan on selling it.

I have been through a lot of watches, and am back to a Sub on my wrist. Your PO won't get you enough money to lose a memory over. Keep it for the memories. Get the Sub to live your dreams.

You say the SubC is your dream watch. If that's the case then make that dream come true and start making new memories with it. I'm sure you know that you can't go wrong with that choice. I'm a little biased. Happy choosing..

Get the sub. If you were choosing between the explorer 1 (similar to the OP) then I’d choose that
