Z Blue Millgauss

I would love a BLNR and have been told it’s a 1yr wait, problem is I have no purchase history with my AD.

I’m thinking of buying a Z blue Millgauss to help build a relationship with my local AD. Hopefully this will help me get the BLNR (fingers crossed)

What are people’s thoughts on the Millgauss? I really like them but I see them in most AD’s so can’t imagine they get much love.

Thanks.

Z-Blue does not get much love here but I think it's an amazing watch. The nicest of the Milgauss line. A bit top heavy but not bad. Not sure if buying a watch you are uncertain of is going to earn you any points with an AD. Too many heavy hitters out there looking for the hard to get pieces and dropping big money to get them.

I'd say not to rush it, there's a time and a place for everything. It won't make sense to buy a watch you don't enjoy in hopes of getting closer to your goal. If the opportunity cost is low to you then maybe it's worth considering.

Z-Blue is a wonderful Rolex. Wish you luck with the BLNR in 2019.

Thanks for the replies.

I do really like the Millgauss and would keep it as part of my collection. I think it’s the price that makes me feel unsure about pulling the trigger

It is a great looking watch but don't know how much weight it will give you towards the BLNR. They seem to reward the precious metal buyers more than the SS sports watches but it does help and developing that AD relationship with possible future purchases.

I would not buy it at MSRP. 10- 15 % off is not too difficult.

I think it's a beautiful watch and there's nothing else in the range quite like it. Having said that, I wouldn't buy one to get on the ladder for the watch I really want. But if you want to own them both they will compliment and contrast each other very well.

You can negotiate at an AD for a brand new watch? Man I feel dumb. I got my milgauss at MSRP. Whatever I love it :)

They wouldn't give me a penny off my Z-Blue. Which is book-ended by an Explorer Polar and Blusey, both of which I got money off at the same AD.

You should always ask.

So it's the availability of it that concerns you?
It's a cool watch but yes it is not universally appreciated. I wouldn't let that stop you if you like it and I doubt it will move the needle much on your quest for the BLNR. If you are hoping it does then tell the AD that you have that expectation.

I would never buy a watch 'in awaiting' for the watch I really want. UK SS and BLNR stock is problematic I've been reading here, I suggest looking abroad or ordering online abroad.

I went from the Z-blue to buying a BLNR 2.5 years in between, both have their own distinctive character. In my opinion a great pair, they are very complimentary.

Z-blue is a very playfull watch (blue, green glass, orange lightning bolt hand) and gets more attention from non-WIS'es, for WIS'es the Z-blue is a true case of hate it or love it. Clean look without the date. Color of the dial is stunning in different lighting. The green glass is a very unique feature and very well excecuted. And I must say more comfortable on the wrist than the BLNR for me, rounder and higher case + no crownlugs, BLNR's case has more sharp edges lower to the wrist and crownlugs + crown can pinch the skin.

BLNR is a more serious watch with more functions a date and of course the GMT-function. The classic and beloved Rolex tool watch look.
The blue in the bezel gives it that little extra touch.

Unfortunately the AD game is alive and well. I guess l played it unknowingly. Last May l purchased my Zblue from my now new AD, my first of 3 in 5 months, then he called last month to ask if l wanted a Blnr. Sold. I bought what l wanted not to lay any groundwork nor did l mention any wishlist. We get along well both being WIS but I'm sure my history helped.

The beauty of a watch collection is that it's.....yours. Your taste, your mechanical pieces of art for your enjoyment. If you love it, wear it.

I personally think that is a stellar watch. Would love to have one myself, but it sits about #3 in line behind some must-have pieces.

I think building a relationship with an AD is very smart. You're going to get the watch from someone, you might as well get it from someone you know and like, and someone that knows & likes you. It makes the buying experience more enjoyable as well. Try and work with a salesperson that has been there a while and isn't going anywhere, rather than this week's millennial...

My experience talking with ADs is no discount on SS professional models. That includes the Milgauss-

There is a flaw with your theory--you assume a single purchase will move you up the list. Not so fast if you live in a hot Rolex market. There are going to be customers with years of history and lots of money spent at the AD in front of you.

The best way to acquire a BLNR or any hot watch is to get into a network of trusted WIS friends who enjoy wearing and, occasionally, swapping watches. You may still pay a bit more than retail, but you won't get scalped by the grays or wait forever.

Build a relationship with an AD?? I think the consumer world has gone crazy when the buyer has to spend money for things they don't want at full price to impress the salesperson.

The market, particularly in the Middle East suddenly got flooded with BLNR flippers so I imagine a decent size batch came in. The fact that all the flippers are selling at the same time has driven down the price to slightly above retail. To be fair I have a Z-Blue and I love it. If you like it and have an opportunity to buy it then go for it. Should Rolex decide to discontinue it they will all be snatched up by grey market opportunists.

Buy From DavidSW. You will get a big discount on it. And pay just a little premium for the BLNR and get them both now. Overall you will save money and time I’m sure. Z blue is nice but I would never buy new for that model. To many nos for considerable discount. Pick up a nice orange rubber strap for it. It really changes the look of the watch. Good luck.

I don’t think the Milgauss will help you with your AD. Most are saying (and I’m hearing from ADs near me) is that you must purchase PM (1:1) to get a Pepsi or SS Daytona.
