Stainless Engine Turn Bezel

Can someone please tell me when Rolex stopped making the SS engine turn bezel for the datejust?

Didn't they start making it again?

I love the new one with what seems to be a polished stainless Oyster band:

They're still making one, slightly different, but still engine turned.

Just as a quick point, the Engine Turned Bezel is available on the Date, rather than the Datejust

The 1603 had an engine turned bezel in the 60's and 70's, and it was replaced by the 16030 in the late 70's and 80's. The 16030 had quickset date, the 1603 had the old 1570 movement which didn't quickset.

My dad has one similar to that. I like the bezels with textures!

My first Rolex was exactly like your dad's just an airking instead of an oyster date...I miss that watch...so simple yet so classy...

Correct, yours is called Engine Turned. As mentioned in the post above this one, the other bezel Rolex made was called Finely Engine Turned.

The engine turned bezel was discontinued on the mens Datejust when the solid link bracelet was introduced. As others have mentioned, it is still available on the mens Date watch in SS.

If you notice on the bezel in the pic above there's little lines in it like the edge of a quarter or dime. A fluted bezel doesn't have those fine lines in it. This is fluted:

Well I'll be buggered! I have had a Datejust for 26 years and I always thought it had a fluted bezel Now I learn that it is engine turned - I'll have to rethink my past 26 yrs Thanks for the heads up.

Look at this way, its like you got a new watch. You had an engine turned bezel for 26 years and now you have a fluted bezel!

Yes, although you used to be able to get a steel and yellow gold with an engine turned bezel. The fluted bezel is always either white gold or yellow gold.

Actually Rolex did make gold engine-turned bezels for awhile. Here's a reference 1505 from 1974:

Just noticed this is a 2009 thread.

When was the perpetual date discontinued?
