Thank you, this is more the point than any of this.

If you’re only going to have one watch, that’s the one to have.

Good choice. I would have picked BLNR myself but that's just because I like having the GMT feature.
Could be many reasons to pare down: - Cashing out. The Rolex SS market is still way up, anyone could sell their watches and would have owned them "for free." - Simplicity. Having more can become a burden (insurance, risk of theft, more to maintain, more to store...) - Chasing after the wind. Is the "grail" ever really achieved? Is there always another? For me, the following little collection is really all I 'need'(*): - A nice watch - Every day watch - Beater I'm already there. I should really log out of TRF at this point and delete my bookmarks & cookies. No more auto-complete in my browser history. (*) But I still want a BLNR! So I'm on a few AD lists waiting for that model. I'm pretty sure if I stop reminding & visiting they'll forget me, not intending to chase it. |

And that's true!
The modern 41mm Sub could be the ultimate sports watch: - Iconic. It is the standard against which all other divers are compared. - Still ~40mm. Not too big, not too small. - Rugged - Waterproof to depths it will never see - Excellent bracelet - Fits in with virtually every setting (casual, somewhat dressed up) - The new case/lug/bracelet combo is proportional (IMO) I just don't need one. I have the SD43... so why downgrade? (ha ha *wink wink* ) |

IMO it's anathema to a collection, which is perfect for OP in this instance. A 16610 was my only watch for years and it was the perfect watch to prevent me from building out a collection (although I eventually lost that war haha). Now I have a fairly large collection and my 126610 actually doesn't get much wrist time. I generally reach for the GMTs and if I want something more subtle I reach for a non-Rolex. |

I've never owned a Sub - now I've got this nagging feeling I should at least try one on! |

As it turns out, I let all the Rolex go and retained one piece, my Omega Seamaster Diver Pro 300m (Black dial on rubber strap) as my "daily wearer." Thirty years ago this month is when I bought my first Rolex, a GMT from the local AD, who lost the account last year. Since then, all but two ADs are gone from the State and the two left aren't worth dealing with so I decided to end the journey with the Brand. C'est la vie Rolex! |
