When did Patek start making 39mm PC's and PC Chrono's
I am looking for a new dress piece for myself and was looking for something like a 3940G as an example.
Is there a set year where Patek introduced 39mm into their line up? I think something like a 3940G is a bit small at 36mm so am trying to find out something a bit "older" that would satisfy this size. Were there any other limited editions etc during the 80's or earlier that had oversize cases? Appreciate the help. |

As you know, the 3940 is 36mm. The 5140 was 37mm. It's replacement, the 5327 is 39mm and it has been out a few years now. Since then they released the 5320, a new PC that is 40mm in diameter.
Traditionally chronos and PCCs were also relatively small by today's standard, until they came out with the 5070 and 5970, sometime in the mid-2000s. |

If you're willing to spend ~150K, there is nothing more stellar in my books than a 5970G. This, of course, would have to be pre-owned. If you prefer to buy something new from AD, the top choices would 5270P (which would be nearly 25% more expensive than the 5970G), or a 5320G which is half the price, but also half as awesome (still quite nice though).

It seems the 2499 was 37.5mm as per Sotheby's catalogue notes and was produced between 1950 and 1985 with only 349 pieces made. Due to its rarity, it will command a high price.
