My Interest Free Loan to Mayors

Stopped into mayors jewelers in boca. Wanted to see the Cellini Moon Phase (which is awesome).

Talked to the sales guy. Tells me that the new Green 41 can be had in 30/60 days. “No kiddin!” Says the idiot (me).

I plunked down my deposit walked out grinnin ear to ear. Look at me! Buyin from an AD, brand new.

Sigh.

Spoke to him today. Now, 15 week minimum.... LOL.

The entire thing is ridiculous. Really.

Isn't the zero percent supposed to be on the buy and not the hold? I hear bad things about Mayor's in Boca. They are the worst offender of the stupid new AD game where you have to develop "huge purchase history" to be considered for stainless watches.

So I guess everything is allocated now. 15 weeks minimum! He could have said 1 week minimum, that could also mean until infinity.. same thing. It sounds like no one really has a clue.

Funny I come across this post. I was told soon why I first put deposit down on 2 watches. And 1 of the watches was a 34" I put deposit down back in July (old color). This week I was told we would not get the 34" anymore so my wife picked the 36" Turquoise. I ordered my 41 blue the week before and now my 41 blue has a 15 week wait too. Funny how they used the same terminology.

Mayor's parent company had a good chunk of my money (around $10K), for about... idk... 6 months?

Thankfully, they delivered, but one really has to wonder what exactly they do with that money while we wait. Is it possible such a company isn't putting the funds in a money market account and making some percentage?

What is everyone’s overall impression of Mayor’s? I have one local to me, but have never dealt with them.

I don’t know how this works as I never had to put down a deposit.
If they told you 1-2 months and they then said 15 weeks, you should be able to get your money back right? That is why I never deal with non decision making sales people.

Mayor’s gives you your deposit back at anytime no questions asked. A few times I have had a deposit down and when the watch showed up I didn’t like it in the flesh. They refunded my card that day.

Well that’s good. Then you have to decide to wait or refund. If I wait I would email 10 times a day to bug the heck out of them to get it sooner.

I've had great experiences with them in central Florida. Granted I've spent a good amount of money there but they always take care of me.

Me too, I was told they'd call me when it comes in. My first time there was a deposit of 50% on the SkyD at a different dealer. This time no deposit. I like this better. Likely the end of the month.

I put a deposit down on an OP 36 turquoise for the wife today. They said their buyer can have it in 8 weeks or less.

This is my second Rolex in a little over a year from this AD. The GM told me this puts me on a very short list for a GMT BLRO. I asked why and he said that I have purchase history and after chatting on the phone and in person he felt confident that I really wanted it for myself. At one point he asked if I had an interest in a BLNR if one became available first and I told him no, I only wanted the BLRO. I think that is what did it for him.

This AD does not put anyone but locals on wait lists, only takes deposits in person and will not wait list anyone without a purchase history. They try hard to take care of their local customers and keep their watches off the Grey market. I respect them for that.

AD's need a revolving line of credit to carry their inventory. Deposits are interest free loan to reduce their line of credit interest payments for all the watches sitting on display. I always worry that if a dealer declares bankruptcy, I will become a creditor in court without a collateral. Although the chances are low, and the amount is small.

I bought from Mayors years ago, good no interest purchase. No problem. I didn’t give them money and wait for a watch, they had a no interest buy over time incentive.

Every AD is now prepped to tell you they can sell every watch that they are getting.

I was in there a few years back and it was brutal, this was before things got crazy and they were not the most customer friendly but then again I am sure they see all kinds down there.

That’s it exactly.

They have some excellently snobby staff and it’s always a great pleasure to visit there.

The sales person really won’t know when you will get a reference. The list is centralized and watches dished out via advocation of sales people throughout the company.

That location does tremendous business...not sure how you will fit into the allocation unless the SA thinks you’re going to be a good client and they plead your case..

For the new watches, you are going to probably have to wait. Life goes on.

Poor business practice if you ask me.

I don’t mind a deposit or full payment to show solid intent for something in stock or imminently will be that needs to be secured.

But a future maybe. No way

What if they do?

Did I say he did something wrong?

It’s not his fault. He gave me the info he had.

Of course I can pull the deposit, but I will wait, see what happens.
