Fastest production vehicle ever - SSC Tuatara 331 MPH

I can't really say I've heard much of this company before but this is one heck of an achievement. This TMZ article caught my attention online.

Quote:
The SSC Tuatara has officially been crowned the "fastest production vehicle" EVER ... this after the supercar hit a staggering 331 mph on a Nevada highway earlier this month!
The rocket-ship-on-wheels took off on Oct. 10 on State Route 160 just outside of Las Vegas ... with its sights set on crushing a world record.
And, after a week and a half of analyzing data and confirming times ... officials say the car did exactly that.
SSC says its 1,750hp Tuatara ran two test runs to pull off the accomplishment ... hitting 301.07 mph one way and then 331.15 mph on the way back for an average of 316.11 mph.
Officials say that feat is good enough to dub the car the fastest production ride of all-time ... topping the Agera RS's 2017 mark of 277.9 mph.
And, get this ... the dude who drove the Tuatara says it could've gone even faster!!
"The car wasn’t running out of steam yet," Oliver Webb said of when he got the ride to 331. "The crosswinds are all that prevented us from realizing the car’s limit."
the supercars are known to sell for around $2 MILLION!!!

Wow - not just broken the previous record but annihilated it.

Hard to fathom just how fast that must be for the driver.

The jump from 70mph to 150mph is huge, let alone double that !

At 331mph that’s almost 150 metres per second. Double wow.

The press kit included some photos.

This one stood out...

It took a jet to track the car for the video. The helicopter couldn’t keep up at top speed.

But the $10,000 connecting rods put me off

Is it just me, or are there a few Hoop-dee-do’s in that road?

My stomach would handle those at that speed

Not to be a naysayer and I get the engineering achievement and the testosterone involved in wanting a car like this BUT where does one attempt to drive something like this.

Nowhere in N America is the speed limit over maybe 85MPH. And nobody can drive on any public roads safely over probably 100MPH if that. Human reaction time doesn't allow it.

I get the gee whiz aspect of this, but what's the point.

Sorry adrenaline junkies.

That’s pretty incredible. Not something I’d buy even if money meant nothing to me but cool nonetheless.

I tend to agree and don’t think one needs much more than 3-400 horses in a 3000lb car.

Kudos to the driver. As my friends dad likes to say. Had the wiener.

Quite a few reports coming out casting doubt on the speed run including Dewetron, the company that provided the GPS measuring equipment. The company stated they neither approved nor validated the records and are distancing themselves from SCC.

Its going to have to be verified by an independent third party ala the Veyron and the 9 print and video media outlets that put the Bugatti through its paces to confirm its claims.

This is a "road car" achievement so it can only be accomplished on the actual road. Not a speed course or even a test track. If it does get confirmed it will be one hell of an achievement but the video has enough questions, quirks and mathematical anomalies to raise major concerns.

Has to be vetted further but we'll eventually get to the bottom of this.

Well it’s official 282. Not even near the 331.
