Dress watches with casual clothes vs sports watches with dress clothes?

Does anyone also enjoy wearing "backwards" combinations of a dress watch with casual clothes / and a sports watch with dress clothes?

That 3940 looks fantastic- looks even better with a T-shirt.

I don’t buy any of this BS about coordinating dress watches with “dress outfits” - it’s as if everyone here suddenly styles themselves on some GQ fashion feature when going to work or out.
Many will take this the wrong way, but when I was living in the US, I’d go for an upscale dinner and find the 70% of the men wearing the US staple of khakis, polo shirt, with running shoes. Looked bloody awful.

Most can wear an outfit as egregious as that, but a Patek on a strap suddenly needs to be coordinated with a suit.

Nonsense. Sports watch craze is about showing off.

To the OP: that 3940 looks mega. The aquanaut ? Meh!

X2

The 3940 is a stunner. I’d wear that with anything. And for some reason the charms of the Aquanaut are lost on me as well.

I had a casual croc strap made for my JLC to dress it down a little.

Wear whatever the heck you like, with whatever the heck you like. The only thing that would affect my choice of watch is the punishment it'd be subjected to. I wouldn't swim with a dress watch, but I'd sure as heck wear it to the park...

Totally agree. Pre-COVID I often wore my 5165 with a suit and find myself wearing my Cellini Moonphase or FPJ with jeans/shorts and a tshirt all the time. And, to be honest, I love it that way.

Back when they were just "watches" and not so genre orientated, I think you wore a watch (often your only watch) so you could know what time it was. I think that 3940 looks great for almost anytime i'd wear a watch that wasn't a g-shock. I'm also generally pretty conservative when i'm not hiking or lounging at the beach or whenever.

There are no rules really any more, esp with so many casual multi-millionaires from big tech, so just do you.

Totally agree. I like to go opposite, I like the oxymoronic nature of wearing super smart with super casual, same as I like the concept of rubber bracelet on a gold watch.

People judge on appearance. You may not like it or dont care that doesnt make it not true.

If you are a billionaire or some celeb, wear your hoodie, shorts and flip flops, np. If not dont be suprised to get a table near the bathroom or no table at all at fancy restaurants.

As for the matching watches/clothes. Most men dress so poorly the type of watch, be it dress, be it sports, makes absolutely no difference. A classy calatrava doesnt make a bad suit or look suddenly look good.

A okay, got it! Really nice and also a great watch to wear casually, certainly with a brown strap!
