As you liked it before I'd go for it, chances are you will warm to it again but if you really don't then you have options outside of an AD to get the 26.

I think you already made up your mind but for what its worth:
In todays crazy world the bird in the hand is the one to feed. Even if, like me, you dont like its feathers. For me the 5990 is the only “fake” nautilus in the series. Fabulous design BUT, the hinged porthole case was THE design aspect that made this model unique. Losing the hinge is losing character. Even though they managed to maintain its personality, it doesnt feature on my wishlist for reason of the lost hinge. Congrats on your 5990! |

Another way to think of this. What if Patek stops making the 5726/1a? Would you be mad at yourself for not getting the 5990? Just a thought.

Take a 5990 or wait for 5726?
I think any of these watches are desirable (5711, 5712, 5726, 5990). They are all damn near impossible to obtain. So I’d say buy the 5990. If you find it isn’t quite to your liking, you should have no problem selling it or trading it towards something more your style.
But as someone with a 5167R and 5712 I’d say a 5990 is definitely a grail Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That said, the 5726/1A Blue dial is a LOT newer than the 5990/1A. I would expect the 5990/1A to be discontinued long before the 5726/1A. |

If the OP's AD finds out, that'll kill their relationship and ability to get any more in the future. |

I kinda thought this as well. And while the movement in 5990 is an oddball that’s not in any other watch, the 5726 shares its movement with 5396. 5990/1A might get the chop soon now that the 1R is released.

the 5726 was on the top of my list about 6 years back (grey dial) however after owning so many ACs i really lost my appetite for ACs and replace few of them with a PC. so in short, get the 5990 now and in a few years time get a classic PC if calendar watches are your thing

This thread already covers all the opinions I'd express. However, I just always have to say, when I read so many people call the 5990 "big and chunky", I feel like I just have to add my counter argument that in my opinion, for my 7" wrist, I think it wears extremely well. I truly do not find it "big", I simply think it has excellent "presence".
I have both, and they're totally different. But at the end of the day if I could only have one, it's a no-brainer for me: the 5990 is the winner. It's more true to the Nautilus' "sporty" purpose, and it has both of my favorite complications: travel time (my favorite comp), and chrono! Congrats, and enjoy it! |

I’d get the 5990. Not only is it a great watch, but it’s here now. The current sports watch craze has changed the dynamic, and who’s to say the 5726 would ever come through. I’ve bought 3 Pateks from my AD (including a 5990) but he now longer returns my calls.

And the fact that the world now treats watches like they treat cryptocurrency is driving me insane. I hate that every day I see several posts in my social media apps about how investing in a [insert any sports watch here] is a great investment because between April 2020 and June 2021 it has gone up in value by +80%. |

5726 is my favorite Nautilus. What’s in your purchase history with that store that you are so lucky to get those offers?

Including the 5990/1A I would have 7 PP purchases under my belt. Of which I guess three are considered ”hot” or ”hot-ish” (5990/1A, 5164R and 5212A) and one other novelty (6119G). They peppered me with some sport Rolex along the way too so overall I’m pretty happy with how things turned out.

5990! It’s virtually impossible to get. You’ll regret it if you don’t take it.

Absolutely take 5990 Op - you will regret it if you don’t . I had just bought a 5711R and a 5990 when Patek closed the door on my dealer and I can no longer buy unless I go grey- very sad. Get the 5990 while you can . james in San Antonio Tx :-)

Thanks everyone for the insightful advice. Will likely close the deal soon. I’ve resolved that I liekly want to have both, one way or the other, sooner or later. One thought I did have was whether you guys think the 5990/1A or 5726/1A-014 will be discontinued first? From what I can see 5990 debuted 2 years later than the 5726/1A (2014 vs 2012) but the 5726 has gone through three iterations on Bracelet and one on strap.

Took the plunge. Very happy with the feeling and extremely pleased about the updated clasp. Thought that it was only gold models and green 5711 that had those. Wonder if all the Nautilii are updated now.
