Street Photography: "Midnight Cowboy"
Last Thursday I was burning the midnight oil as I went to bed at 3:30 a.m. and woke up at 7:30 a.m. – I left work at 3:30 p.m. … I was really tired but had a hot dog from one of these street vendors and hit the street for a few shots - glad I did. Took my mind off things troubling me at work and in my personal life... I needed a change of pace.
Here are last Thursday’s results – you may have already seen the Saturday dinner I think I’ll take a break from Street Photography in the coming week – I took more than 6800 pictures in 29 days with the D70s – The camera could use a rest and so could I plus I have some writing to do. As I formatted these picture I have my iTune on the computer going, my earphones plugged in and playing Crime in the City (Sixty to Zero part 1), Old Man, Keep on Rocking in the Free World and My My, Hey Hey (Out Of The Blue) by Neil Young - I get in a zone where even if I get thirsty and hungry it doesn't matter what I do until they have been formatted, uploaded and posted - Time is irrelevant... Find the cameo today and there might be something for you – okay there is, first person to find the cameo gets a prize! The title of today's piece well - you'll see - it has nothing and something to do with the movie... Since there are a few homeless people pictures and a couple of horse riders - why not ... I am not sure if people actually read all the comments as such - Today just a few comments under the pictures in small font and ... And the lyrics from the songs above. If you have the CDs or the songs at home - play them while reading this post. I hope you enjoy this one and - yes - feedback is appreciated as I am trying different formats for these - both negative and positive as I can only get better at it when people tell me what they don't like - Bring it on! Crime in the City (Sixty to Zero part 1) Well, the cop made the showdown He was sure he was right He had all of the lowdown From the bank heist last night His best friend was the robber And his wife was a thief All the children were killers They couldn't get no relief I really like the biker style and the woman on the left looking straight at me The bungalow was surrounded When a voice loud and clear Said, Come on out with your hands up Or we'll blow you out of here. There was a face in the window The TV cameras rolled Then they cut to the announcer And the story was told. Hey hey my, my - love can never die..! The artist looked at the producer The producer sat back He said, What we have got here Is a perfect track Hey hey my, my… what we got here are two people connecting..! But we don't have a vocal And we don't have a song If we could get these things accomplished Nothin' else could go wrong. Hey hey my, my… what we got here is a woman standing..! So he balanced the ashtray As he picked up the phone And said, Send me a songwriter Who's drifted far from home And make sure that he's hungry Make sure he's alone Send me a cheeseburger And a new Rolling Stone. Yeah. There's one more kid that will never go to school Never get to fall in love, never get to be cool. Keep on Rocking in the Free World! There's still crime in the city, Said the cop on the beat, I don't know if I can stop it I feel like meat on the street They paint my car like a target I take my orders from fools What can I say - I got a soft spot for a woman in uniform... NOT! Meanwhile some kid blows my head off Well, I play by their rules That's why I'm doin' it my way I took the law in my hands I like this picture… ...and this picture This guy jumped in the street with his 8.2 frames a second and big lens but, but.... He didn't chase the light... So here I am in the alleyway A wad of cash in my pants I get paid by a ten year old He says he looks up to me There's still crime in the city But it's good to be free. Yeah. I don't know if it is that good to be free... Use my tax dollars a little better to help these poor souls Now I come from a family That has a broken home Sometimes I talk to Daddy On the telephone When he says that he loves me I know that he does Who's your daddy!? - Okay, okay I had to say it!!! But I wish I could see him I wish I knew where he was But that's the way all my friends are Except maybe one or two Wish I could see him this weekend Wish I could walk in his shoes He is someone’s brother - someone’s child - even someone’s father perhaps, he is my fellow man... I can't help but be touched by all the misery and hardship I witnessed walking the streets for the past few weeks, for the past 27 days... But now I'm doin' my own thing Sometimes I'm good, then I'm bad Although my home has been broken It's the best home I ever had Yeah. What kind of home does she come from, what kind of home will she make Well, I keep gettin' younger My life's been funny that way Before I ever learned to talk I forgot what to say I sassed back to my mom I sassed back to my teacher What kind of home is she heading to? I got thrown out of Bible school For sassin' back at the preacher Then I grew up to be a fireman Put out every fire in town Put out anything smokin' It is better to burn out than it is to rust, the King is gone but he's not forgotten... There is more to the picture than meets the eye... Hey, hey, my my... But when I put the hose down The judge sent me to prison He gave me life without parole Wish I never put the hose down Wish I never got old. Nice stance... Rockin' In The Free World There's colors on the street Red, white and blue People shufflin' their feet People sleepin' in their shoes But there's a warnin' sign on the road ahead This is a shot where I took a chance - I was told that a guy got punched in the face for taking a picture of a punk guy with a Mohawk - I took a chance and didn't ask - must have been a different guy There's a lot of people sayin' we'd be better off dead Don't feel like Satan, but I am to them So I try to forget it, any way I can. I can't help but notice how much beauty there is in this world - and I know that's why some of you click on these post - not for the running comments but for the Toronto chicks... A few more Toronto chicks... Keep on rockin' in the free world, Keep on rockin' in the free world One of the photographer from www.globalaware.org Keep on rockin' in the free world, Keep on rockin' in the free world I do what I want and enjoy my life I see a woman in the night With a baby in her hand Under an old street light Near a garbage can Media people looking for an interview for Television... I wanted to watch television tonight - oh well, this is way more constructive. Now she puts the kid away, and she's gone to get a hit She hates her life, and what she's done to it The kind of city photograph which has a lot in it - a lot to see, figure out and discover - in Toronto there are 2 seasons Winter and Construction... I guess it is the same in any Northern city. Construction workers will be ... construction workers. Well it is not because you are on a diet that you can't look at the menu - it doesn't matter where you get your appetite as long as you bring it home... There's one more kid that will never go to school Never get to fall in love, never get to be cool. I like how they thought of everything - chairs for the guys while their wimmin is shopping... Keep on rockin' in the free world, Keep on rockin' in the free world Babe alert - just doing my best to increase my ratings... Keep on rockin' in the free world, Keep on rockin' in the free world Babe alert - just doing my best to increase my ratings again... We got a thousand points of light For the homeless man We got a kinder, gentler, Machine gun hand We got department stores Rider and toilet paper Got Styrofoam boxes for the ozone layer Cruiser Got a man of the people, says keep hope alive Photographer with a lens bigger than his Camera... That's Canon for you! He he he Got fuel to burn, got roads to drive. It went well with the lyrics Keep on rockin' in the free world, Keep on rockin' in the free world People do enjoy having their picture taken Keep on rockin' in the free world, Keep on rockin' in the free world Slice of city life on a Thursday "My My, Hey Hey (Out Of The Blue)" Out of the blue I took a guy's picture... He looked behind him to see what I aimed after he heard the shutter release... My my, hey hey Rock and roll is here to stay It's better to burn out Than to fade away My my, hey hey. I keep running into the strange bicycle guy! Out of the blue and into the black They give you this, but you pay for that Front shot And once you're gone, you can never come back back shot When you're out of the blue and into the black. Free shot - "You are not allowed to take my picture..." Errr why? "Cause you can do what ever you want with it..." Damn right! he he he plus…. I thought it was a good picture... The king is gone but he's not forgotten This is the story of a Johnny Rotten It's better to burn out than it is to rust Living the life, It's better to burn out than it is to rust... There's more to the picture than meets the eye. The king is gone but he's not forgotten. Hey hey, my my Rock and roll can never die Classy style There's more to the picture Than meets the eye. Hey hey, my my. Oh my Gawd! (look at the top left corner he he he) "Old Man" Midnight Cowboy Old man look at my life, I'm a lot like you were. To serve and protect Old man look at my life, I'm a lot like you were. The last gun totting, horse back ridding city cowboy Old man look at my life, Twenty four Okay 36 in my case... and there's so much more Just because I can! Live alone in a paradise That makes me think of two. Ba bye Mr. Man! He was nice just standing and posing there for the camera... Cool Love lost, such a cost, Give me things that don't get lost. Yes I was that close... Like a coin that won't get tossed Rolling home to you. Here she is again... Old man take a look at my life I'm a lot like you I need someone to love me the whole day through Ah, one look in my eyes and you can tell that's true. Oy Vey! It's done!!! Lullabies, look in your eyes, Run around the same old town. Doesn't mean that much to me To mean that much to you. I've been first and last Look at how the time goes past. But I'm all alone at last. Rolling home to you. Old man take a look at my life I'm a lot like you I need someone to love me the whole day through Ah, one look in my eyes and you can tell that's true. Old man look at my life, I'm a lot like you were. Old man look at my life, I'm a lot like you were. |

WOW! Not only a great post, but also a very informative one. I am quite shocked to see that poverty exists even in such advanced places like Toronto. I had my fill of all that in Bombay and thankfully see none of it here in Auckland.
Dude, your pictures are excellent and so are the words and verse which you've so painstakingly matched up with your pictures. A superb effort, very dedicated and a sure fire way to win all our hearts. A big welcome to this forum, pal. Just one question: Where the hell were you all this time? Cheers - JJ

Nice pictures of your city, Patrick. My only major critique is that some of them are a bit dark. You need to open the lens a bit more. But otherwise, I like your eye.

Great pictures Patrick. I'm on a slow dial-up connection and it's taken me almost two days to open them up. I think your exposures are OK, Ed must have a dark monitor.

Good to see you here Patrick. I remember there was one Asian girl you dated a couple of years back and I had also dated her.
I guess she's attracted to WIS'. |
