Omega...Limited Editions...
I’m an Omega fan. I just read they are introducing another limited edition 300m Bond set. Is it me or do they offer more limited editions than non-limited stuff? I’m over exaggerating a bit...but where does it end?

Do you have a link? The only recent one I’m aware of is the limited edition release for On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

Widely believed by the watch community to be too numerous, much to their detriment.

I really like the Omega brand, such nice watches. But the LE stuff has to end.

This business model must work or they would stop it. Right?

To be fair, they do release too many. But on the flip side it gives buyers a lot of choice which you don’t necessarily get with all brands. There’s something for everyone. |

I can not keep up with the LE and SE watches from Omega. It does not bother me as I am typically focused on what I want and what works for me. If you look at all of the Speed Masters released over the years it could make your head spin. I just accept it as how Omega does business.

They don’t care the watch collector. They prey on the uninformed with a slight knowledge of the brand.

Omega...Limited Editions...
There are a lot of limited editions, true. Every now and then we find a good one. I picked up a bit of a unique Planet Ocean 'Pepsi'. Love the colours
There's 2018 of these

The number of limited editions has since long passed comical levels and it is hurting the Omega brand, but execs at publically traded companies don't build for long term (unless you are Jeff Bezos) and focus only on quarterly earnings. It is a shame.

Omega...Limited Editions...
Limited edition is often associated with 'rare'. They are not. Omegas limited editions are alternatives to the mainstream lineup, they provide the customer with choice.
Rolex calls theirs anniversary models.

If you ever see an Omega that isn't a limited edition, then buy it. They're rare.

I respectfully disagree. Although I too think omega has gone way overboard with all the LEs, I also believe consumers buy them up. Otherwise they would not do this. They make a ton doing this I’m sure. And I don’t think it hurts their brand at all. Omega makes very good quality watches at reasonable prices even without a discount. And they keep them in stock. That’s a fine business model IMO.

I don't really see the problem. Just because they are no lock set with all the other swiss brands is not a problem for me. The reality is, the SE's have a special appeal to some and not others. Much like any brand, I choose the models that speak to me. For me it was the original moonwatch w/hesilite crystal. BTW, there are other even high end brands that get into the LE and re-editions (i,e, AP 25th anniversary ROO, JLC, and VC have done it as well just to a lesser degree).

Don't get me wrong, I like Omega and own plenty of them, but from a brand management position, they are pretty much clueless.
They make too many watches and aim for exclusivity by having a high retail price be a barrier of entry... For example, the new Bond Seamaster is $9200.00 When it is released and the dust settles, that will be a $6500 -$7000 watch on the open market. The Rolex Sub Date is $8500.00. It sells on the open market for $9500 -$10K. So....when people see that they can't just stroll in the the Rolex AD and get a Sub, combined with the resale being HIGHER than MSRP...which watch is MORE desirable? At the Miami Design District, the Omega boutique and Rolex store are essentially next door to each other. The Rolex store was FULL of customers...with limited watches to choose from.. The Omega store was full of watches, with NO customers in the store... Omega makes a great watch, but they just don't get it... |

I have a soft spot for Omega and likely always will. I particularly like that I could (within reason) get what i want when i want at a good price. The one part I’d agree on is that they make too many watch options. There’s no need to have so many variations. Take the Planet Ocean as an example. There is no need at all (imo) to have a 39.5 and a 43.5mm option. Just make a 42mm right down the middle. Simple. Same goes with the Speedie. There are way too many options available. Do the limited editions, I have no major problems with that. But trim down the main stock for heavens sake. |

Omega are different to Rolex, they give people choice through variety. As for LE, they are usually watches with different colour. More variety.
