This.^ Of all the watches to find fault with, the Speedmaster might have been the wrong choice in a watch forum.

Thank God the OP saw the light on this one. One of the most overrated watches out there
Another thumbs up for not settling for a mediocre watch because you couldn’t get a Rolly

the regular speedmaster moonwatch didn't grab me but I have to say that GSOTM is calling to me. I'm just not on board with paying the price they're asking (even second hand) considering if i ever give it a big bump i'll be paying another 7k for a brand new case.

I have to say I'm totally in the opposite boat...in terms of the Speedy Pro.

I happened to try on a sapphire sandwich last week, and I can't stop thinking about it. I have a speedmaster date, which is a little blingy and ok, but this thing, wow, just wow. I picked up a Seamaster Pro 300m instead...but something tells me sometime soon, the speedy pro will be mine.

That being said, I also tried on the white racing. It was ok, I tried to like it/talk myself into it, but couldn't. I went to the Rolex AD the next day, and their watchmaker had the white daytona. I had never seen one in person, and he let me his on. I didn't believe the hype at first, but now I understand. That dial is unreal. Someday, in you know, 1-10 years, it will be mine.

Exactly. Pretty sure 99% of this forum has or can have a Rolex. I have 3 in my collection (16800, 16760 and DSSD JC), but the staple is my Speedy Pro. Growing up I never really liked Rolex, but the Speedy...oh man, I must have been 8 when I first saw it and knew that, someday, I would buy one.

Love Rolex, but every time I see someone with a Sub I automatically assume that he only bought it because it is a status symbol. A Speedy, though, is one of the few watches that allow me to make a positive assumption about who's wearing it, and the many random encounters with a Speedy owner prove me right.

This is exactly how I feel about my speedy and 95% of Rolex wearers. Obviously a.massivd generalisation but it has proven right on both sides so many times.

The demand for SS Rolexes has caused a lot of people to settle for a speedy

Guess the speedies were such poor sellers for the other 48+ years of their 50+ year history then... Enjoy your steel Rolex and narrow point of view at risk of missing some iconic references if that is the modern viewpoint...

Exactly. Look at how my poor Speedy looks along with the Rolex. Might as well throw it away...

The biggest disadvantage of the Speedy for me, is that I can’t go to the forums and cry about how the AD won’t sell me one and how long the waitlist is.

On my list.
But you lose so much money on them compared to that Rolex they can’t get and will never lose money on, because they can’t get or will get via grey and justify why paid double, then watch the market slowly adjust downward.
Did I capture it all?

Because they are mass produced just like a Submariner. But if you think any Rolex, other than the Daytona probably, is actually “rare”, just go to any grey dealer so you can be proved wrong. Artificial scarcity at its best.

Try it on and wear it for a week...and read about the history from racing to space...if you are a collector it may resonate...if not you could move on...or don’t get one and post offensive comments in this thread...

Even with the glare, I can read the time on your speedy...the daytona I have to think about.

Nice collection btw.

Tried on a Speedy yesterday at the AD, wasn't a fan

I like the speedy, had a reduced version once.

I never bonded to it and replaced it with a IWC Pilot Chronograph. Turns out that's the chrono for me! For me it beats the speedy pro. The heritage isn't there, but that design and look....

I'm a Seamaster man....

Because Swatch isn't creating an artificial scarcity? If you think SS Rolexes are rare or special, I have some bad news for you? They are great pieces, but there will always be bigger and better in the world.

Is the black on the two tone sub sunburst like the bluesy, or is it the same type of dial in the normal sub?

The picture isn't perfect, but I hope it shows the dial well enough. It is the gloss black just like on the stainless, only with yellow gold indices and hands.
