1016 crystal - is this domed?

Hello everyone,

I am the second owner of this Rolex 1016; my brother was the first owner - bought it new in 1986 and gave it to me in 1992.

In 2002, I had it serviced by the Rolex rep in Luxembourg. The crystal had a small crack in it, so they replaced it. I can't be sure, but I think that the original crystal was domed. In any case, it was replaced.

So, two questions, and I've attached photos. Would the original crystal have been domed? And is the one that's on there now domed? I've been going cross-eyed looking at various photos and I don't know that I can tell the difference... thought I'd reach out to people who see these things all the time. I don't want to ask Rolex to put a domed crystal on there (if they still have them) if it didn't originally have it (or if it's already on there, of course).

Many thanks,
Clive

By 1984/85 Rolex began fitting what are known as service crystals; essentially a non-domed version like the one currently fitted to your 1016. Same goes for Daytona's.

Excellent, thanks very much. I did peruse the forum and found the gentleman in Hong Kong who sells an after-market T-22 domed crystal... however, if you're telling me that this watch would have originally come with a crystal similar to what it has now, then I'll just leave it that way.

Thanks again,
Clive

Rolex sold the old design or "domed" T22 crystal up until 2011 or so if my memory serves me right as I purchased many from them.
