Replacement crystal for a 1675

Hello,

I would like to have the acrylic crystal on my 1675 replaced. Is this something I could purchase and take to a local watch repair shop or do I need to take my watch to a Rolex AD? What would the typical cost be?

Thanks!

I would take it to an AD. That shouldn't be a problem or cost much. Do you have pictures of your GMT. Here's mine.

Here's a picture (taken with my phone). The crystal has been gouged pretty good in the past then polished out. It looks ok from most angles, but it bothers me and I'd just like to get it replaced.

Thanks for the reply.

Any jeweler with a Rolex account should be able to replace the crystal with a new one. I don't know if the vintage crystal is different than the original, but if it is you can still locate the older style crystals through people like Steve Mulholland.

Here's a picture of the watch. It's not noticeable in the picture, but the crystal was gouged pretty good at one point and polished out. There's a lot of uneven distortion at certain angles.

Thanks for the replies.

I would take it to an AD and they should be able to do it while you wait if they have the crystal in stock.Nice luminova dial and handset.

Great looking watch.. the dial and hands have been replaced to more modern standards, and the bezel too...

A new Crystal would be a great finish......

Almost any watchmaker can do this....... but you don't want a generic replacement as the cyclops magnification may be off and the quality is unknown..

You need to find a Rolex AD who has a watchmaker on staff, or ask an AD who does their authorized Rolex work, to change this for you at a cost of about a hundred bucks.. If you take it into any other AD, then they will send it off to a Rolex Service Center, and they may not replace the crystal without insisting on a 500 dollar complete service..

Thanks for the comments. It had a complete service by RSC two years ago. I know the newer parts affect it's collectible value, but I really don't mind as I intend to wear it on a regular basis and not ever part with it.

It is an awsome looking pepsi. I am liking these more and more. I don't care if the insert and hands are replaced by Rolex. Its still very nice.

I would like to see Rolex produce a ceramic Pepsi bezel but I don't think they will ever be able.

I very happy with the glow of the Luminova. I leave the watch on my night stand, and it's definitely readable all night long. I also like the coolness factor of the bright glow whenever I walk inside a dimly lit area after having it out in the sun. It's every bit as bright as the Lumibrite on my Seiko diver (which I always thought was second to none).

hey tr4driver,

i am looking to do the same with my 1969 GMT master 1675 (pepsi). i called an authorized rolex dealer, but they send all repairs to dallas. im told that rolex will fit acrylic crystal to the vintage model - i was hoping to find a sapphire crystal replacement.

have you, or anyone, had any luck with finding a sapphire crystal replacement for 1675 models?

I've never looked for a sapphire replacement, and to be honest want to stick with the acrylic. It just seems to give the watch a warmer/softer look that I like. Also, scratches are not that difficult to remove. I actually git very brave the other night and took some very fine sandpaper to my crystal, then polished it up with some metal polish, then plastic polish. It looks brand new now!

That watch takes an acrylic crystal. If you are worried about scratches buy a tube of polywatch. It works

That's a beauty. As stated a watchmaker with a parts account can take care of you. RSC would have replaced the crystal at service so the one you get will be the same.
