Incoming 126610LV. Not my first submariner, but hopefully my last!

I have a love-hate relationship with the submariner. I love the watch, but whenever I wear it, I seem to notice half the entire city wearing it too.

I bought my first submariner 116610LN around 2016. I wore from time to time, but it never got that much wrist time. It looked great, but never really fit right and so it stayed on the bench. In 2021, I was really interested in the 41mm case and jumped on the hype train and got a 124060. It felt perfect and wore great. I honestly don't have a preference for date or no-date. I started wearing it daily and continued to notice black submariners everywhere. One small dinner party and 3 subs. One beach trip and the cabana to my left and right both had black subs. It felt less and less special. It eventually kept the bench warm too. First world problems, I know.

I ended up gifting away my 116610LN to my brother last year and gifted the 124060 to my father-in-law just last month. I griped to my SA about the commonness of the black submariner and mentioned interest in an LV or 126619LB. That felt like ages ago and never brought up again.

Come last week, I stopped by to pick up my 16570 from some RSC work. I was swapping the black dial to polar. At the time, she asked if I had a minute and pulled out the LV from the wall drawer. I felt the honeymoon phase I had with the 116610LN and the 124060 wondering if it would last longer this time. I gave my card and went on my way.

I think that the black submariner is a great one-watch collection. In my collection of watches, I can see how the black submariner never found it's place for me. However, the LV feels special and not so common. I think I'll be keeping in the rotation for quite a while.

Obligatory Starbucks pic.

Amazing purchase and good for you. Been waiting nearly a year for one myself and just can't wait for it to finally arrive. As you say, black sub's are quite common but I've only ever seen one green sub in the wild. Sure looked special. Wear it in good health.

I’m so glad I don’t see Subs in my day to day life the way some do.

Congrats on the LV. Still one I’d like to own if I go back to owning 2 Subs again.

Congrats! Having had the 124060 prior to the 12LV I agree. If you had one watch, not into collecting, the black sub works well, but I never wanted to wear it over my BLNR. With my 12LV, I go to each of them almost equally. I don’t have the same problem with everyone around me with subs. Most people don’t have or know my watches are even a Rolex where I live. Even so, as much as I love the black subs, something about the 12LV feels more special on. Great backstory, I enjoyed reading it.

I don't worry about too many others wearing the black Sub and in my neck of the woods, I don't see many Rolex of any type. The LV is a special watch and I'm glad it is part of my collection.

If you are a Bengals fan, coming from a Steelers fan, that was a really tough loss.

I totally agree with you. Since I picked up my LV, just 2 weeks ago, I have not put my 16610LN on my wrist anymore. It is a very special watch.

Big congrats and enjoy it!

I am with you on this. I have only seen one LV in the wild too. I was wearing my 124060 and a cashier commented on it and he held his wrist up with an LV. In my head, I was thinking green > black, haha.
