Has anyone made a walk-in purchase???

I had the amazing fortune right after Christmas, to walk into an AD while wearing my 116655 Yachtmaster, struck up a conversation about watches and 10 minutes later was offered a PM Submarinier (126618LN). I know I was incredibly lucky, but is this unheard of or have any of you had similar experiences recently? I’d love to hear the stories and what you received.

Local AD has 4 watches for sale on display - all Datejusts. Not what I'm looking for.

A poker buddy was on the wait list for a Sub or a Sea Dweller for 2 years at various local and international ADs (he travels a lot). At the January game he walked in wearing a Sea Dweller. He said he walked into a NYC AD to chat and ask about availability and they brought it out for him to try on. “This just came in. If you want to buy it you can have it”.

Lucky guy.

Not recently. Doesn’t matter what watch I’m wearing when I go in.

Pre hype, all the time for just about any model except for a SS Daytona. Those were the days the reason you didn’t buy a Rolex was because you didn’t have enough money and buying more than 1 or 2 Rolex models wasn’t even considered.

When I bought my first Rolex in 1991 (Two tone datejust with black diamond dial) I walked into the AD with the case filled with Subs and Daytonas and got the datejust

I saw a Platona in the case at a Rolex Boutique, tried it on and could have bought it. I didn't. It was around 2018. Stainless steel watches were already hard to get but PM watches were everywhere.

Jeez, I’ve been lucky. Walk-in buy black date Sub 2019 (home based AD, no prior purchase history), two-tone bluesy 2019 (out of town AD, no purchase history), Home based AD: Batman 2021, YG DD 2022. The only thing we had to wait for was a DJ 36 for my wife. Waited a couple months.

Toronto 2014 I bought my 116600 for 20% off I was offered a 116520 white dial at msrp out of the blue. I passed because I came for the seadweller and they were available on TRF for 1k less lol

My first AP a Royal oak 15400 I bought as a walk in to Cellini NYC in 2015 for 13,500. They had black, silver and blue 15202 available to chose from.

Now says it’s all a text from a salesperson who acts like they’re doing you a favor. Yawn. Get off my lawn.

2021-2023 it has been happening.

But it’s AD dependent and customer dependent. It doesn’t happen everytime but pretty regularly.

I am presented watches on a regular basis but very very rarely the top 5 hot stainless pieces. But I notice that the reps will try to listen for the client to state the reference or something close that client is looking for before bringing it out. Also sometimes they bring out other customers’ watches to let me view but tell me specifically that i cannot buy it.

This last month i was at a couple ADs and was presented with… some diamond dials on datejusts, rose daytona, platinum daytona, fluted dial jubilees, gold skydweller, two tone daytona, OPs in black and silver.

They are definitely hiding watches in the back, under the case, etc. They do have times they are truly out of stock. But some of the time they are def hiding watches from lookie lou.

Yes if there were Rolex here in Indiana I would have bought them all and sold them to DavidSW. (Joking of course but as a whole people would have).

Just yesterday, walked in, struck up a conversation and showed interest in the deep sea James Cameron. Long story short, I walked out half an hour later or so with this beautiful beast

Looks like “the times they are a-changing”

Was the pink dial - it’s long since gone I traded it towards a platinum Daytona.
