Advice on Travel Watch For Spain

Hi All, headed to Spain soon and wondering which watch to bring. Will be spending time in Madrid, Seville, Malaga and Granada. First visit.

I want to bring just one watch for the two weeks I will be there and trying to decide between:

Rolex Explorer II black dial, 42mm. 216570
Rolex Sub Date 41mm. 126610
Tudor Pepsi GMT. black dial. 79830RB
Omega Seamaster quartz black dial, sword hands 2264.50.

Appreciate any tips and thoughts!

I’d probably bring the Pepsi GMT for dual time keeping. I think. Then again, I’m kind of a snob and would probably want a Rolex, so I’d grab the Sub at the last minute.

I don’t know anything about traveling in Spain but from that list I’d consider the Exp II first because it’s an under-the-radar dual-time Rolex then the Tudor GMT because it’s not a Rolex but with full GMT function and then the Omega because I don’t consider Quartz watches to be precious. I’d leave the Sub at home because it’s so recognizable and possibly a target.

Spain is hit or miss … during the day, I always feel safe. At night, you can very quickly walk into a sketchy and dark area…

I’ve been to all of the cities you mentioned plus Valencia and Barcelona … I would bring the watch that I don’t care about having to replace.

Tudor...

You can replace it for 3K.

I love Spain, but we all have heard the horror stories.

Awesome trip, I’m sure you’ll have a blast in Spain. The history, food, people, scenery…all quite spectacular.

I spent time in those cities in late fall 2019; opted for a then newly acquired Tudor GMT (red/blue). In fact picked up a P01 while there in San Sebastián. Both watches were covered the majority of the time while wearing in public, which seems to be especially important in Barcelona.

Anyway, choose the watch you feel most comfortable with, and consider insuring before the trip for additional peace of mind. And do share pics!

Sounds like a great trip, all by train?

As for your watches, they all are great, and any one would be fun to wear, and tempting to bring two.

To quote Hoyt Axton, Never Been to Spain, but I hope you enjoy it, and let us know the ins and outs of watch wearing there.

The BB GMT would be my easy choice.

With total respect, I’m not sure how anyone can advise you which watch to bring on a trip. Are you able to contribute why the choice is difficult with those options? In one way I think you could be asking which pair of shoes to bring which is equally out of anyone else’s league. Hope you have a nice trip.

Whichever one is cheapest is my standard reply.

I'm currently in Estepona and have my Tudor GMT and my Sub 16800 with me, which covers all the bases

With all of the watch theft threads on this forum, I'd bring whatever you can replace for the cheapest without crying yourself to sleep over...

Well, it is a watch forum and not a shoe forum.

OP, since you haven't been to those places, I'd take the Tudor. If you go back, you'll likely not need our help

I travel to Spain once a year and I’ve either taken my Sub or Batman. The only sketchy place IMO is Barcelona, but that’s not on your itinerary so you’ll be fine at the places your visiting. I’ll be out there the first 2 weeks of April and taking Batman again. Spain is a beautiful country, have a fun and safe trip!

Sure. The point is that how can any of our preferences supersede the guy’s taste? It is analogous to “which watch should I buy?” or “is this watch better than this one?” I remain interested in the answer to my question regarding why the choice is tough. Perhaps the poster can explain why it is tough or why any of these is in question.

Tudor GMT or the Sub would be my vote.

The watch that makes you feel special while still replaceable. You never know when traveling and would say the same for the US… wanted to add this part since it always gets brought up in a response.

Fair point. The “why” of the question would help guide to discussion. The only problem there, if it’s about safety, like most of the other threads, it’ll quickly descend into hell.

With it being his first trip to those places, I just made an assumption that he’s just as curious what kind of place those locations are, as much as he is about which watch to take with him.
