OP 39 Bezel

Hi Everyone,

I bought a new OP39 from Dubail Paris right before COVID19 took off (March 8). It’s my first Rolex and it has been my daily ever since. I noticed a small scratch in the polished bezel at the 6 o’clock that doesn’t show up well in photographs. Should I see if my AD can touch it up when things open back up here in LA or just leave it? Also, does anyone happen to know if the Explorer I 39 has the same bezel? Heres a pic of the watch for those curious.

Leave it, one of the great things about the OP39 is it can age, as it can take on scratches on the bezel...the case... the bracelet...everything except the crystal. So, when you're done wearing it, it will have a story to tell. Each polish you do will ruin the lines and sharpness of the watch. The bezel will not retain the same smoothness either. You can always replace a bezel if it bothers you - it's just steel.

I wouldn't try to take out the scratch as you'll get many more on that. A polished bezel like that is prone to get hairline scratches. The Exp I 39mm has a flatter, angled bezel and is also prone to scratches.

Thank you both. I’m guessing the Exp I bezel is the same material but a slightly different shape? The fact that I’ve spent more time trying to get a picture of this scratch than I would like to admit is probably proof that I’m being a little too OCD about keeping this scratch free.

Congratulations on the watch. I wouldn't polish it personally.

Are you planning on polishing every time you get one small (almost imperceptible) scratch? Your watch has only known a sheltered life. Once things go back to normal, and you start wearing it out in the world, it's going to accumulate many additional scratches/nicks. Just wear it and enjoy it.

The 39mm Explorer has a wider, flatter bezel. If anything it would be more prone to scratches than your OP.

It is very anal to think a scratch so small it won't show up in a picture needs to be taken in for a polish up. You've had the watch 6 weeks, do you not think it will get another scratch if you wear it everyday for years? Modern Rolexes are robust and are meant to be worn and can take a beating. I got an OP about a month ago and have several dings in it already including a huge scratch on the clasp. I'm sure I will have hundreds more scratches on it over the years, and one day I'll get it polished up maybe in 20 years. And then proceed to scratch it all up again, just wear it and forget about it

Consider this: the more scratches it gets, the better it gets. Normal wear in the form of scratch and nicks gives a lot of warmth to your watch. I wouldn’t bother. Anyway you’ll collect a lot more if you keep wearing it daily, as it should be worn.

Life happens. Are you going to send it off for polish for every scratch?

No polish necessary.

Enjoy the watch and it's imperfections.

First scratch hurts the most, but as.others have said, there will be may, many more. After a while you won't even think about them. Great watch, wear it as that's what it was meant for

Explorer bezel is wider, flatter. Arguably, more scratch-prone. Don’t worry about the scratches. Enjoy the watch. Here’s mine, saying hello

Personally I don't see a need for polishing. Congratulations on the piece

I have a Sub as well and concur with your opinion. It's now my daily watch. The Sub is the watch that will be the occasional piece.

Congratulations on your first Rolex!
It is Great watch.
Enjoy it.
Please don’t panic with every ding and scratch - the watch is supposed to get scuffed up!

Weird, I posted but it didn’t post... funny you mention that, I just said if I can’t get a clean picture of it I’m probably being overly OCD about it. My SMP chrono has tons of desk diving scratches on the clasp and a good bit on the polished bezel. The OP I didn’t think of as a tool watch like the SMP. After seeing some people dinged up I agree it’s just character. I think the first one just hurt a little 😂
