Have you ever bought without trying it on?
My second generation 214270 arrived a week ago today and it's been a dream. But I have a confession (which I really didn't want to divulge initially since it seemed like one of the cardinal rules of TRF): I ordered it without having ever tried one on. (The only Rolex I'd ever tried on was a 114060 in an AD for 30 seconds 2-3 months ago.) Worse yet, I'd never even seen an Explorer I in the flesh!
I knew I wanted a brand new Rolex, and had pretty much ruled out every other model for one reason or another (for now), so it felt a little bit like this one or none. No regrets, no forced liking of anything, only total contentment. So, have you ever been so reckless with a Rolex acquisition? |

I bought my sub no date without ever trying it on or seen it in person. Stainless steel sub is hard to find here in Australia. I took a leap of faith and I never regretted it. When it came in the mail I thought it looks rather small (am used to a 42mm watch) but now I think 40mm is the perfect size for me

Yes. Many times. Usually works out well, sometimes not. You can always eat a $500-$1000 loss and sell. It's not a lifetime commitment.

Yes - all but my first Rolex were bought without trying on.
I wouldn't call it reckless if you know what you want.

I bought my 16710 without trying it on or seeing it in person. Just the way online watch selling goes these days.

I tried on the first rolex I bought in 1997(Sub date). Up until 13 months ago I never bought a watch over 42mm, (only bought two in that time frame 1997-2015), and nothing of Rolex caliber. Six months ago I tried on a DSSD, "just to be sure". Those are the only two I've ever tried on :)

Bought a 16570 Exp II polar sight unseen. Tried on a buddy's sub date once and that's the only contact I have ever had with a Rolex sport model prior to taking the plunge.

I have bought many times without seeing the model first or ever. Sometimes, you just have to give it a shot since certain models are harder to come by.

I probably shouldn't be as surprised as I am that there are this many responses in the affirmative ... and yet I am.

A majority of the close to 100 watches I've bought have been without benefit of being able to try, just a hazard of not having local access to those that I want. Earlier on, before I got to know watch measurements and wrist fit, I had to either return or sell a few but not a big deal. Hasn't been a big deal and I continue to buy without being able to see up close and personal . . .

I just bought a 116660 D blue unseen and I had never worn a DSSD before. Fits great and I couldn't be happier.

Yep, bought many without trying them on.....Smurf, BLNR, Exp II x 2, SubC, DJ. In fact, the only one I have tried the exact model before buying was my DD40.

For a company that produced 1 million watches a year and have no problem selling them, I am quite confident their products fit most people quite well in term of wearability and style, the constraint is always the budget. If the budget is right, nothing else matters(too much).
