Oysterquartz stored with dead battery?
Sorry if this has been asked before.
My Oysterquartz battery has expired and I don't want to replace it at this time. Is there a risk to the watch movement from battery degradation if I store the watch with an expired battery in it? |

It should be removed, why risk leakage?

A leaking battery can DESTROY the EXPENSIVE Oysterquartz movement rather quickly.
Remove at once! |

Have you seen a remote control with dead batteries in it? Yep, that will happen to your Rolex instead of a remote control.

The Oysterquartz uses a SR344 battery and its not rocket science to change it yourself.Even most high street watchmakers could do with the case back tool its only like unscrewing a jar and pressure check after thats the hardest part. You can buy a pack of 5xSR344 batteries for around £8-£10 its not like if its some special Rolex certified battery its just a normal run of the mill battery. But trouble today once you mention Rolex the price always escalates 10 fold and its no different to change a battery in a Rolex as to changing one in say a Seiko dive watch.

I would keep it running and buy a good brand battery.

Thank you padi56 for that detailed information on the battery type and thank you everyone else for the advice. I will certainly have the old battery removed now and not risk leakage and damage to the watch.
