2 year waiting list for Submariner date in UK

Hey, I wondered if anyone in the UK knew if quoted waiting list times were usually fairly accurate or just quoted to scare people off?

I’ve contacted all of my local AD’s, one said Subs are first come first serve, another said the waiting list is closed because it’s too long and the last and only AD who would put me on a list said it’s a 2 year wait.

Never heard of such a long wait time for a sub.

Thanks

2yrs is only if everyone on list is a serious buyer given the supply the AD may get. When it comes to parting with cash, most will pass. Join a few lists. Prob be a month or two max.

Also keep ringing around and you will get one within weeks. The AD would rather sell in store than spend 2 hours phoning through the list getting the run around. Might have to drive a little further though to next town, city, county AD etc.

Sub Date and Sub are both as rare as each other.

Good luck.

They're not easy to find unless you know the ADs.
I went to three AD and they didn't want to sell it. Said the list was too long. Of course the could source it for the right customers. Probably even had a few in the safe.

Ended up getting it from a grey dealer, but had to wait 3 months. Only plus was that it ended up 50eur under retail.

I would try a grey. At my age, 2 years is a lifetime.

Subs are easy enough to come by. Like others have said just out your self on a few lists, it’s the green LV that’s a bit tricky currently.

Weeks not years just put yourself out there , picked one up today and they left every sticker on not that it matters although I might do a rude video of me peeling them off

Nice pair! Were you given a long waiting list time initially? Thanks

Visit several AD’s. It’s too easy for them to not take you too seriously over the phone. I imagine that’s why you’ve had the negative reactions - I find it hard to believe that, even within the ridiculous UK market, there’s genuinely a 2 year waiting list for a Sub date.

Go in person, strike up a conversation, make it known you’re a serious buyer. You might even consider offering a deposit - it’ll probably be declined but it’ll show the AD you mean business. Get yourself on the waiting list then rinse & repeat at another AD and go from there.

If you do that at, say half a dozen AD’s, I guarantee you will pick up the watch within weeks or at worst, short months.

Best of luck.

The sd43 i asked to be put on an imaginary list before basel world so 1st but that turned in to 3rd , AD didn't know how long but was less than 6 months , the sub was suppose to be six months but 3-4 weeks , iv had other sd43 and subs offered in this time from AD . For me it easy to pop in multiple AD as i my work takes me up n down the country and as stated FACE TO FACE seems to work , just think about how many calls they get vrs how many people who pop in have a chat and show a bit of passion about watches i know who id want to sell to. The reason i went for a sub this close to basel was because if it does gain a few MM the 40mm will become a sought after piece just like the sd4000 is today. Happy hunting

wow that's crazy. Go plan a trip to the US of A. I wouldn't say we have an abundance here, but it's definitely not 2 years of waiting...

Bloody madness

2 years for their best seller that costs 5k ish

It has always been 1-6 months but 2 years is mystical Daytona territory

Rolex need to sort this out. (Broken record).

I’m from the UK and on the waiting list for a no date sub and GMT Master 2 LN and was told about a 6 month wait from my local AD (I have no relationship with the AD). I was told there is an 18 month - 2 year wait for the Sub date and three years for both the hulk and BLNR.
So far I’ve been waiting a month and a half.

It's annoying but giving the beleaguered ADs the benefit of the doubt they are probably just dividing the number on the list by how many they expect to get a year. We know many will pass or buy elsewhere, altho with instant profits to be made many will buy one now just to flip even if in the past they would have passed.

Would be interesting to hear your thoughts - ceramic Sub Date vs SD43.

There was an EXP 1 in my AD's window last week. Not seen a Sub in a window since November 2016

Iconic (grey) are selling in the UK for £7,055 ($9,500) quoting 1 to 2 months wait.

The US price is £6,300 ($8,500)

If you get caught for VAT on the way in from the US the price is then £7,560 ($10,100) And thats before flights and accomodation

Even from Europe youre looking at a £7,000 before flights

Cheaper to go grey

To all the Colonists on the other side of the pond, no they can't just fly over and pick one up or shoot DavidSW a mail. Import duties would not make that pencil out.

and no they can't just sneak one back in under Her Majesty's Customs. If they get caught they would get spanked hard.

There. Now that we got that out of they way.

Best of luck to all in the UK.

This almost should be a sticky.

To everyone saying to go to the USA or Canada....

In the UK if you buy in USA or Canada, the exchange rate makes it over list, Plus you have to by law declare the purchase and pay 20% VAT.

Always best to work hard and find one in the UK rather than buy in the US/Canada.

(I’m in the USA every year and the sums are always miles out)

I wouldn't come here just for a watch but....there're a lot to see here in America, it's a big and beautiful country. For example, come here and ride your bike along the Pacific coast from north to south, drop by the AD's along the way you will find the Sub and wear on your adventure :)

Just like I wouldn't come over the UK to save a few hundred dollars on the Sub (if I can find one LOL)

I love the USA and have great friends there.
Quite the opposite for me in that I wouldn’t come to buy a watch at all, but love visiting the USA.

When I was there Summer 2017, the AD had a hulk in the window and the salesman was surprised I didn’t buy it as it’s “hard to get in the Uk”. However the maths made it thousands more expensive (and I could get one in the UK at list price anyway).

I was quoted some crazy time scales when I bought mine back in July last year, ended up taking 7 weeks! Missed out on one couple weeks prior to that due to missing the call, by the time I called back an hour or so later it had gone.

They don't have to pay VAT if they don't come back... One way to clear down the waiting lists.
