I can speak for Spain. All licensed retailers/grey dealers/jewelers/Dept stores have in their windows or on their counters a display showing VAT refunds of purchases over 150€. The refund is given at the point of embarkation (the airport). There are kiosks where you drop the paperwork off. Refunds can be in cash, or back on to your CC. It's pretty simple and straight forward. Just ensure at the time of purchase you have your passport handy for the transaction as they will need the information on it to process the initial paperwork. The paperwork the shop gives you is what you must you hand-in at the airport in order to obtain a VAT refund. Good luck.

I agree this too for germany, but only at AD's not at a grey dealer I think

I assume it all depends on how the tax authority considers a grey watch. Technically its used/pre-owned as you are not the first owner and it has been used or partly used while in the EU.

Ask them before you buy, because you need a special receipt in order to claim the tax back and not all dealers can supply this.

Most grey ADs in UK do not offer VAT back due to the way they purchased the watch originally

Thanks guys for the information. Other than UK, does anyone know how it works I. France Swiss or Italy? Does anyone have any reputable non AD dealers to recommend? Thanks in advance!

Ive never come across any grey dealer that gives a vat refund.

I think this is part of the way they have a margin for the massive discount on them as it would have already been reclaimed one way or another.

No. VAT ends once the watch has been in private hands. And I've never heard about a grey offering VAT refunds.

Watchfinder in the UK definitely do not. I asked them a couple of years ago.
