"GILT" dial?
Sorry for my ignorance, but what is the meaning of a "Gilt dial". I tried looking elsewhere, but there are many non-watch-related references that confused me.
thanks! |

It refers to the gold colored text/printing used on early examples.

Does it mean gold coloured, or actual gold markings? On the 6150 Explorer I have, the numbers and hour markers look like they are actually made of gold or at least gold plated.
Also, in the photo below, are they considered gilt hands? Excuse some of the dust and a couple things that look like scratches, they are actually in the crystal, exaggerated by the flash. A 100mm Macro can be brutal up this close too, showing every bit of dust. Robert |
