"1932-1957 H.WILSDORF A SES COLLABORATEURS" engraved on the CB of this Vintage Rolex.

Err...watch in 18K Rose or Pink Gold...

Has any Buddies here seen this sort of CB engravings before...?

Orchi's French can be quite ugly sounding...
but trying to figure out what these engravings...
in French words "A SES COLLABORATEURS"...
would mean...

Does it mean the watch was intended by Mr. Hans Wilsdorf as a Gift...
"For His Collaborators or Employees or Comrades or Associates..."
amongst whom they have served together in Montres Rolex SA...
for 25 years between 1932 to 1957...?

What would be the major significance of the era between 1932 to 1957 for Rolex SA...?
Could it be 25 years of Jubilee...a time of rejoicing n celebration...?

Or could the watch had been intended...
as a 25 years LONG SERVICE AWARD from Mr. Hans Wilsdorf...
to his dedicated staffs...in Montres Rolex SA at the time...
from 1932 to 1957...?

IF so...Then Orchi can't help but wonders...
how many numbers of his staffs...
were honoured with such a 25 years long service award...
to begin with...

Err...less than 100...or less than 10...maybe?

Thanks for watching...
n any feedbacks are most welcomed...

Best regards
Orchi.

P/S: Oh btw...the inside of this CB is engraved with the last 3 digits...
of the watch's Serial Nos...

Orchi, I think it's very interesting and I'd love to know what more you find out about it. Do you have any more pic of the watch?
BTW, I don't speak French.

I think it translates to "To his(or its) assistants."

So maybe a gift given from Hans.

As for the date, no idea. What model is the watch? Maybe it has something to do with the release of a model?

This is close. Translation: "TO HIS COLLEAGUES". I believe the dates would represent an employees 25 years of service. Watch would likely have been a service award.

p.s. Adrian - Care to elaborate on the meaning of your comment???

Orchi...err buddy...cool find. Do you think this was actually given by Hans himself or an award named after him that goes to his employees?

That's it for the translation! Therefore I'd say the hypothesis following it is probably right (I did a quick Google search and unfortunately I haven't found anything about those years). This is a very nice discovery you made Orchi! Am I the only one who would believe this could be a pretty good Rolex treasure? Am I overrating this piece? I doubt it very much!

The poster wondered why no one had responded - I gave my opinion just as you have given yours.

I believe the real problem with you comment isn't that much the fact that it was rude (although I believe it was and I do have a very cynical sense of humor) but rather that it was unnecessary. There are some place around here and some threads where people will tolerate a more "violent" and "rough" type of jokes but this thread was meant to help Orchi with his Rolex watch, not to tell him it wasn't interesting and stupid.

We accept freedom of speech and opinions around here should they be written in a respectful way.

Just my two cents of course, I could be wrong...

Whilst Adrians post was perhaps direct in a chopper kind of way ( though very typically Australian) the point he was making was valid, in a couple of days of it posted no one had responded whatsoever ... And only did to defend orchis honour or forum ettiquette..

The reason being that a piece like this is not about the physical in front of you but about the provenance that supports it and the back story that can be substantiated ... And without those it could have engraved last week, last decade or 50 years ago ...and will be treated as glass half Empty without supporting info ..

Do you own it orchi ? If so do you have more strory to tell regarding it ?

Err Buddy Jedly...long time no chat...n wishing you are well...

The watch is being offered to Orchi for consideration...
It would be delivered for further evaluation soon...
n if Orchi likes it very much...Orchi gets to keep it...
IF not...it goes back to its present owner...

This interesting watch carries the Ref 6611B in 18K PG...
The Case serial of 3xx,xxx would relate to 1957 production...
All the hallmark stamps seen on its case + inside caseback + Cal.1055 movement...
seem to be consistent too...
An interesting feature seen inside its Caseback is that it is also stamped...
with the last 3 digits of its case serial nos...

This distinct feature of stamping S/nos. inside the Caseback cover...
would relate to it being made by Rolex on special batch of production...
similar to what is usually seen with other special batch of watch production...
by Rolex...

However...NOT having seen the typical CB engraving before...
which Orchi believes to be perfectly genuine...
thus Orchi seeks the advise from those who might have seen such engraving marks before...

Hmmmm...can't help to wonder...
if Mr. Hans Wilsdorf had indeed personally held the watch...
or handled it personally himself...
when it was awarded to the intended recipient...
with a firm handshake at the time.

Very very interesting possibility...

Yes Buddy...from the pics...
it would seem that the watch was re-polished in the past...

Might be previously...no one ever gave the engravings any thoughts...
or the engravings was thought to be insignificant...

Like so many of those in the world who would wear a Rolex...
or even collect Rolex watches...
no one would know who was the greatest n genius founder of Rolex...
the Late Mr. Hans Wilsdorf...

In this case...
the manner of how the great name was engraved on the Caseback cover...
of this watch..."H.WILSDORF"...
many might not even noticed or recognized it...
to begin with...

Err Buddies...by the way...
after getting the positive feedbacks from the Buddies here...
n sinking into deeper thoughts...
Orchi is thinking now the watch might have been...
quite significant in the Rolex history...maybe...

Or at the least the watch might have been...
very important to the intended original recipient of the award...
honoured by the great founder of Rolex himself...Mr. Hans Wilsdorf...

In French...does the word "Collaborateurs" in Plural sense...
really mean...employees or associates...or partners...?

Hi Orchi,

To me 'collaborateurs' translates as a 'group of people working towards a common goal' during a time period (over 25 years in this case) given the dates on the watch.

It would appear that this watch was dedicated to the Hans Wilsdorf team who worked for him from 1932 - 1957.
Whether it was presented to individual workers who were with him for those 25 years or not I don't know but I would expect so.

Err Buddy Ed...thanks you very very much...
n to everyone in here too...

Orchi is since dead curious...
how this watch could have ended up in these parts...
of the world...
n who could have been the original recipient...
of such a rare important watch...

Hmmmm...

The sanding of the back can only have been done for cosmetic reasons, That engraving was done by hand and is deep, requiring the removal of a significant amount of material to make it disappear! The person who sanded the back did a good job removing only a minimal of material to get it looking good again. The meeting of the sanded surface and the polished bevel looks very clean meaning this was done by someone who may or may not have understood the significance of the engraving but knows his trade.
