Stop buying used watches above retail and maybe things will get back to normal.. watches are to be enjoyed/worn and not kept for an investment or locked up in safe.

Yes, at least stop buying BNIB watches on the grey market. This would allow watches to be sold to non-flippers at AD retail prices. I really believe Rolex, AP, PP, should make it difficult to allow new watch warranty to be transferred in the first year of purchases. This would cut down on flippers. Maybe if the owner wants to sell the watch in the first year they have to sell back to the manufacturer. I am tired of all these BNIB watches readily available online and grey dealers at way above cost. They are purchased by flippers or back door deals from AD to grey dealers.

I’ve been buying more than ever. So many great watches that were unjustifiably priced have come back to msrp or better. As a long time collector this is what we’ve all been waiting for.

What are some recent pick ups for you?

Are you talking about YG Daytona with Green dial for $38k?????? It would be very hard to believe.

The market price right now is about $68k not $38k.

The Rolex and Journe unfortunately not back to msrp but I was able to stomach market price where it currently is. I also had a 15510st for a bit that was very reasonably priced relative to the last few years.

The best is when the TS post the same watch on 5 different forums with $100 price drops once a month. What a pain in the butt to manage

Not an apples-to-apples comparison.

I personally would never pay above sticker for anything that is currently in production and made by the millions just because there is a temporary anomaly with the world economy.

Each to their own though.

You’re right! You can get a Daytona free with a bowl of soup at several restaurants! It’s like a nice piece of day old bread!

Some greys have the BLRO listed over 20k

The biggest drop is the LV. Tons of Kermit’s under 15k. I guess the hype is off on that one. I think that’ll be the first to drop to msrp when the market comes becomes aware of reality

Not just that the prices collapsed - but hardly anyone is buying anything. Try selling your brand new 126711CHNR Rootbear: There's no grey dealer in the world that would pay you above the MSRP so you can flip it like back in 2021. Have the Daydate or a plain datejust? Good luck unloading that.

Dealers are full with stock bought at the peak of the market. Most are overleveraged and are hoping for market to bounce. It won't.

The 2020 is long gone. Rates are high, there's no helicopter money. People are spending their cash on vacations again. We will never see that hype in our lifetime again.

Hey Submarine
Good point.. party is over.
I remember selling chnr 2t for $29k
Lol it was laughable… i felt bad for flipping it … for like 13 minutes then i was over it
Sild it mainly bc rose gold looked awful on me

Wouldn’t that be a “sellers market” when one refuses to lower an asking price?

I think it’s best to realize that there are a number of different types of watch purchasers:

People who use the watch frequently.

Collectors, who are concerned with the history and workings of watches.

Investors, who think the watch price is going to go up in the medium to long-term.

Traders, who are basically betting on watch prices going up or down in the near future.

Folks who are intermediaries in supporting the above (resellers).

Like it or not, that’s the market that exists, and one needs to either take it as it is or move on. Futile to wish it was something else.
