5146G for my first Patek Philippe?

Hi guys,

I'm making the final decision to buy a Patek Philippe this month. And this is going to be my first PP. I'm interested in the 5146G-001 model and it has one at my dealer in Bangkok.

Should I start with this model? Is this a good choice? I rarely see any posts about this model. Actually, I really like the face and the comfort. I don't think I can afford PP more than one (at least in next few years).

I'd like the watch that doesn't look too dressy, a bit casual but not a sport watch. Can wear it everyday. Doesn't concern much about price depreciation. Please help to provide me your advises, or should I go for other model? thank you very much

My recent watch collection is shows in the picture..
1. RL Submariner 116610LN
2. RL GMT Master II 116710BLNR
3. RL Explorer II 216570
4. PAM 510
5. GS SBGA127

The watch is the best bang for your buck on the Patek line up. Versatile, useful, descent lumen , patek DNA. You should be able to get a good discount for this watch. Even with discount , let’s say you get it for $30k (US) when selling be prepared to lose at least 6k, if not more.

If you don’t care about that then you are good.
Would I buy this watch even though I really like it ? No , Me personally I can’t buy it because even if I am lucky and keep it for 1 year , I can’t afford to lose 6k , that of course counting that I got it for 30k from an AD. Like I said, if these economic restraints don’t apply to you then do it

Best of luck

That's my very first Patek and still proudly own it after all these years. I did A TON of research on it before I decided to buy it. I like it for all the same reasons that owners of this model do: understated, casual, useful functions, everyday, classic Patek look, value, etc. If those are what you are looking for, you can't go wrong with this one.

Many thanks JorgeCCW for the very useful advise. I can get about 5% discount for this piece. It quite difficult to get one form other ADs here as they don't have it in there stock now. Even I think that I won't sell this one out but to see price dropping is quite annoying.

Many thanks Zuger. I would like to rush out to the AD now after I read your comment LOL. Yes, those reasons you're mentioned are same as mine too. Thank you once again.

When you get the watch, ask your AD to give you another strap (for free) - or ask them to sell you another strap - in a different color such as matte blue.

Just changing the strap color can make the watch look completely different and much more interesting.

Awesome , I had that watch 3 times in 3 different versions

The platinum is probably my favorite but is so unappreciated, it’s fallout on price is so dramatic that put its price on the grey market very close to its gold brothers.

Enjoy it , such a beautiful piece. I might get it again and this time for good

Well done. I’m a big fan of this piece. It straddles the formal-casual quite well.

Lovely watch. My fist and still only Patek is the 5146g, although I went for the grey Dial.

Awesome pick up

Congrats! Did you also get additional straps from your AD?

Reference 5146 is an excellent choice for a first Patek - an AC with luminescent hands that make it a bit sporty. Patek has been producing it for 12+ years and is a popular reference.

Congratulations on your new watch

Thank you to all. It looks like I’ve made a quick decision. But I have been talking with my saleperson for couple weeks and try to get the best deal from other ADs. I post this topic to support my decision that I won’t go wrong with this refference for my first PP

To RollieKid: No, I can’t get a free strap but able to ask 2% more discount from 5% to 7%.

To JorgeCCW: You really are my influencer!

Thank you once again for your kind support

Sawasdee krub. I bought from an AD at Erawan Bangkok (Grand Hyatte Erawan). The retail price in Thailand is THB1.326 million.
