I would be very careful about paying large amounts of money for something like this, you are entering a minefield and I hope others can shine more light on this for you than I can, but with my extremely limited knowledge I would pass on this.

All about price and if you enjoy the search, it will a fair job and costly to sort it out.

Looks like he says he has it already. These are rare, I have owned 3 & only one had a really good dial. Yours is missing hands and bezel and bezel insert. Both very expensive and not easy to find. You can google past sales and get a value but very subjective because of quality of dial. So you have a rare incomplete watch that will be expensive to make whole.

Well, good luck with your search for gold, while using incomplete and erroneous information

and by the way :
Earlier this month December Sotheby’s had a rare 6536-1 first series with no hashmark bezel in unpolished condition sell for an astounding USD 225’000. That is a new world record price for any small crown watch. Not only that, but it was 11x higher than the low estimate of $20’000. Up until now the strongest prices small crowns have achieved are selling for the CHF/ USD 100- 150’000 range. Like this example, a 6536-1that recently sold by Christies. so check before you talk regards t |

It may still be a worthwhile project but be prepared to pay anywhere from 1-5k for hands and up to 50k for an insert. And even then you will likely have a value which is much lower than you think.

Just because you piece an old watch back together does not mean it is instantly worth what another sold for. Go ahead and do what you think is right since you came on here looking for advice but as soon as advice is given, you question the advice given. That is not a good way to make friends here and this site is made up of some of the best minds known to the Rolex community.

Were there different dial variations/caseback variations? what about the case? Is it suspect in any way? The providence of the watch? Before I would put 1 dollar into this I would have to be absolutely sure about what I have. A collection of bits like this can be a very expensive and frustrating experience. |

You have to expect that some may find you a bit off in your reply’s. Hopefully you are really a passionate collector. I look forward to the auction. Last and only comment. |
