It seems that ppl are always Bitc#ing about ......
Rolex this and Rolex that on other forums.
I present everyone here with my rant thread Ex Why doesnt Rolex make a bigger watch? Why doesnt Rolex finish their movements better? Why are the prices so high? You Rolex owners should wake up and learn that there are much better brands. All you Rolex owners have been conned into your purchases because of clever marketing. Who the freak cares? No one ever said that Rolex is the best watch company in the world. No one has ever said that Rolexes are great bang for the buck or that they are made with perfection of every last detail in mind. Me and members of my family have been collecting watches for years, Rolex is my favourite but I know that Rolex probably doesnt make the top ten list for fine watches. I know that Patek, Vacheron, AP, Breguet etc all make better time pieces. SO WHAT? I like my oysters. In my family and in my own personal collection I own watches from those makes, but guess what gets the most wrist time? My Rolexes! I am sick and tired of Rolex owners/lovers being branded as ppl with too much money that only buy into the name. Just because we own Rolexes it doesnt mean that we dont know s#it about watches. [/rant] thanks for listening to me vent. |

Well Rodger like your rant,Rolex make one of the most reliable and long
lasting accurate movements that about today, nothing more, nothing less. And will hold there value on Parr with watches like Patek, myself have never been a fan of Patek watches, but there movements well that another story. I love Rolex but have many watches from much lesser pedigree.

You are 100% correct. Screw everyone who #1. Thinks Rolex is a rip off, and #2 wants to know "why doesn't Rolex...." Seriously. F every single one of them. They are IDIOTS. What's more, I find that generally THEY are the zealots, which is the height of irony because that's always what they accuse ME of. I NEVER said Rolex was the best, or the best deal, or the greatest or any of that BS. But THEY are always completely ardent in their opinion, and utterly un-willing to see reason. Boneheads, every single one.

Roger, I agree with all you say. :-)
Still, I don't care at all what people think of me based on the watch I wear. If they want to think I'm a dilettante, a spendthrift, or just a nitwit, that's ok. I enjoy life too much to be concerned about that. :-) |

Oh don't get me wrong I am not governed by what others say. It just drives me up the wall when my opinion or what I have to say has no merit simply because I own a few Rolexes. All of the sudden I am branded as some dumba$$ that knows nothing. People on some of the other boards like to assume too much. |

Hey Roger,
I think that most people who are open minded at all realize that Rolex does a good job at making a certain kind of watch. Not the best by any stretch, but definitely a solid, reliable watch. I think part of what causes the reaction is that, contrary to your initial post, there are some Rolex "enthusiasts" out there that go way overboard on some other forums claiming Rolex is the best and anyone who thinks differently is being stupid (seen it many times, especially on TZ). I think those few people, coupled with the fact that Rolex attracts a lot of "non-watch" people is the reason that some view it as a brand that attracts that kind of person, and therefore discount the watch - a big mistake in my view. I usually ignore both side of those kind of arguments (although sometimes they are fun to read). |
