Flipping Hell

Sad thing is I've bought about half that amount in the past 12 months but only sold 2, we are that same animal

I've flipped a lot also but I've tended to stick to more popular models and always buy pre-owned, so the flip/trade/sell usually breaks near even. But it's a hobby and it's not breaking the bank. There are a couple that I've re-acquired and won't get rid of again.

Very good question. I don't know. For years I just had two watches and was happy with that. Then all of a sudden I went into flipping mode. I guess that if I was happy with two watches once I can be happy with two watches again.

Crikey Nathan,

I didn't realise you were in the Seth "Superdog" league of flipping.... That's scarily impressive .......

I've done the exact opposite and bought about the same number since 2011 but flipped a big fat zero..... So far.......

My goal is to go through life and never flip a single watch - yet enjoy all of them forever.

That being said I'm always a little tempted to flip a couple of ones I wear less for a grail-ish watch as opposed to just saving.

Nathan - Omega PO LM LE?

I'm 99% sure you had one at some point - sweet time piece

How do you rate your SD 4000? I'm just a bit worried the dial is a bit busy for me.

Oh yes, well remembered. I only included the watches from the last three years. Prior to that, I can't remember all of them, but here are some of the others that I've flipped.
  1. Rolex Submariner 5513
  2. Rolex Submariner Project X
  3. Omega Planet Ocean (orange)
  4. Omega Planet Ocean Liquid Metal LE
  5. Rolex bimetal yachtmaster
  6. Rolex bimetal submariner (ceramic)
  7. Rolex bimetal submariner (non-ceramic)
  8. Panerai Luminor Destro
  9. Doxa Sub 750t
  10. Rolex Submariner 14060 (non-cosc)
  11. Rolex Explorer (non -cosc)
  12. Rolex Yachtmaster platinum
  13. Rolex Submariner 14060M custom (fixed sprinbars & brushed)
  14. Rolex Sea-Dweller
The SDC4000 has a "wordy" dial. I think that the cleanest dials were on the 14060 and the Explorer

Apart from the obvious fact that you need to visit the doctor - 'cos this is a very serious addiction my friend - where does the SDC4000 'pitch' in your sickness history?

Close to Top - Medium - Low - Other?

To be honest, as I was a diver for years I have a soft spot for diving watches. I was happy with my old Sea-Dweller for years and hundreds of dives but had to flog it when the tax man was chasing me relentlessly. I think that was the trigger for my flipping once I had the funds again. At the moment I'm more than happy with the SDC4000. All the guys from the London GTG reckon I won't still have it in November at the next GTG but I'm sure that I'll prove them wrong.

Riiggghhhttt!!! I've seen that SDc up close and in person. It's a real beauty, but I doubt it will be around long. Nathan, I'll bet you will flip it soon for the next great watch.

Me, OTOH, I don't flip at all. I buy and keep, even if I don't wear one much.

Nathan- my list is actually twice as long, so you're normal by my standards! It is not a business for me, so I've lost on a few, made on a few and have mostly tried to break even. It is a fun hobby, and I don't see the harm in trying as many as you can!

Flipping allows me to try stuff I would otherwise not be able to buy.

As soon as it stops being fun- stop, but hopefully that day will never come!

BTW- I've owned a LM LE too, encouraged by a thread YOU started a looong time ago.

I can really appreciate this thought process.
