Advice needed
Hey guys,
Need some advice here. I’m new to the forum. I recently purchased a 5172g (no PP history, only Rolexes) this May with the condition that I be given allocation for one of their steel models; 5712, 5726 or 5164. 5 months later, I got a msg from him saying that he allocated me a 5168g blue. While it’s not my 1st choice, my question is should I take it or forgo this allocation and wait for my wishlist? He did say that if I were to take the 5168g I would need to make Another purchase to obtain further allocation for hot models. What do you guys think? |

Go for it!
Even long-term customers are not always offered the 5168G. |

I would forgo it and wait for the wishlist as he is asking you to buy another darn watch before getting something you want. Too much of a game already to be honest.
He went from, buy this gold watch and I can get you a steel watch. To , here's two gold watches and if you buy a 3rd gold watch I can get you a steel.

I personally would take the 5168G, but in your case I would not settle. They gave you their word on allocating one of the 3 SS models you desire. Politely decline and express you are eagerly waiting on them to follow through on their initial promise
Of course, if you like the 5169G as much as the others, go for it! |

I would say get it, it's a really nice blue aquanaut and priced high on the grey market. If you don't like it, hold on for some time and then sell which would fund at least the purchase of the 5164a. Only buying a 5172g and getting nautilus seems quite optimistic

Take it these dealers change their mind all the time if someone else spends more money you move down the so called list!

I decided to get it in the end. Win win considering the grey market prices and no chance of getting a steel with my current purchase history.

Awesome choice! If you just imagine it to be a steel aquanaut based purely on color, then you have the best of both worlds lol

Congrats! It looks great and was a smart move to take it. 3 years ago I wouldve suggested you wait but with the current watch market as bad as it sounds if an AD offers you anything it is a huge win. Wear in good health!

Good choice and now you have options to get the watch you want outside of an AD's whim.

Congratulations on your purchase. A blue dial, white gold Aquanaut is a desirable timepiece. However, looking at your original choices it does seem you were looking for a complicated steel Nautilus / Aquanut and walked away with something very, very nice, but quite different to your original wish.

I absolutely would have made same choice- no question :-). Beautiful! I bet since you followed through on this transaction you will still be on the allocation for your next piece!
