New to Panerai

After many days of searching for new watch that i have never owned before, today i chose to buy from Panerai!

Alot of watches there most of them are similar in dial ! Very lost which to buy!

What do you recommend guys in stainless steel with a budget 9k dollars or under. Something must be with the iconic Panerai crown and i prefer back open case

You like Luminor cases and display backs, you've cut the model line down to about 14 thousand watches.

Panerai can be a difficult brand to negotiate

Now you need to decide on,
Case size
Sausage or sandwich dial
Seconds subdial
Date
Power reserve
Sapphire or Plexi
Auto or Manual wind
Inhouse movement or generic

That list should cut you down to a few models but it takes time and research

or just buy a Luminor base like most that are new to the brand do.

Sounds like you're narrowed to a luminor with the guard, 1950 case is the assumed style -- in that case I think next figure out if you want 47mm or 44mm, domed crystal or flat, and if you care on sandwich dial vs. painted.

once you've figured the above it's narrowed enough where you can think on specific models.

If not 47MM then definitely go with 44MM. If you feel 44MM is too big then you don't really "get" Panerai and the brand is probably not for you which is ok. Just my opinion of course.

Brand new or pre owned?

For pre owned,233 fits your requirements with some bonus added (GMT and 8 days PR)

Personally I'd try both bettarini luminor case and 1950 case to find which one is more comfortable on your wrist

Personally I like bettarini case better as 1950 case is chubbier and felt more top heavy

Don't discredit 47mm,I find their (1950) case to fit better on the wrist in comparison to the 44mm ones

Good advice, but my 233 (1950) outlived my 390 (Bettarini) as manual wind 1950 tends to be slimmer. 233 is incredible and 2nd hand is just a great deL of watch.

Last week I saw a 233 dot in a dealer in Japan asking for less than 7k usd,very tempting price

Another alternative will be 270,have seen them pre owned in 8.5-9k range but it's a bit rarer as the lifespan of the product isn't as long as 233

Another suggestion (some might think that they're less exciting as the two long PR models above) might be 351 or 441 (or even 661?) as these are different enough and they have different case material that are lighter than SS

In my opinion, you should do some research until these details do matter. Otherwise, you’ll develop preferences that matter after the fact and it’s always lousy to look back at a $5,000 to $20,000 purchase and think “I wish I did more research” or “I wish I knew what I wanted when I made that purchase”.

For me, any detail I skip over and think it doesn’t matter, it almost always ends up mattering at some point. Just my opinion though.

Look at the PAM 682. It’s the 42mm Submersible.

Get something in the Luminor 1950 case. With a budget of 9k you can afford most of the regular production line in stainless steel. I'd go black dial on your first Panerai as it is the most traditional. The only thing you need need to decide is whether you want to go 44mm or 47mm. I am assuming you want 44mm+ to really hit classic size of Panerai though certainly you can get whatever you like. The PAM 1312, 372, and 422 come to mind as excellent places to start.

The regular Luminor case also has plenty of base models. Most of the 8 Day movement models have display casebacks.

As has been said above, 233. For most people, it’s the only PAM you’ll ever need.

Personally, if I could only ever have one Panerai, it would be a 533 but that’s a long boring story that’s been beaten to death
