US Pricing 5130P and 5170G

I am in USA and looking forward to the 20% plus discounts that everyone seems to be getting from their AD's. Whilst not looking for anything specific two "nice to have" opportunities cropped up with an AD offering the above at $45000 and $60000. Both discontinued and I reckon preowned in the $35000 and $45 000 range. Does any body know of better prices as I am not that familiar with US pricing. The AD is not moving on this but I am a terrible negotiator.

It would be helpful if the replies could be fact based on experience rather than the plethora of anecdotal suggestions that will undoubtedly follow. Cheers

Don't forget about sales tax if you walk out of the store with it.

Are you looking at the white or black dial 5170g?

Although I can't specifically comment on what is the best price one can expect for NOS watches from an AD, I would say that since the 5130P has been discontinued longer than the 5170G (at least the black dial), it will be harder to source the 5130P brand new from an AD.

Just buy pre-owned back home, then you’ve no VAT to worry about.
https://www.chrono24.co.uk/patekphil...-id6341914.htm

Only a few years old – https://www.chrono24.co.uk/patekphil...-id5627785.htm – but no Archives Extract available for another 12 months.
Perhaps both those are the pre-owned prices you referenced.

Prices I quoted are auction and Christies had a 5170G this week at $47k. I am definately tempted into a preowned but would prefer a better condition than (2).

Hone your negotiating skills and get that 5170 refinished?
You might even be able to use your contacts at Rhone to get the Extract returned with the watch.
Besides those numbers on C24 are wholly subjective, and their 2 might be more mint than another seller’s 1.

Alternatively play hardball with Italy...https://www.chrono24.co.uk/patekphil...-id4700917.htm

Just out of curiosity, since size is fairly similar, do you like the 5960?
I’m thinking along the lines of the Moscow Edition, WG with blue dial.

Karl, I'm not familiar with US pricing or discounts, but the price you've been offered for the 5170 is a c25% discount off the list price Hugh posted, so sounds pretty good to me. It's a c18% discount against the UK price.

Irrespective, the 5170 is a great watch and would go very nicely in your collection.

Thanks Russell I think the 5170G is £58550 before VAT or £49000 after. That's roughly $63000 which makes USA marginally cheaper. If I could find a U.K. Discount that would be good!! Cheers

Since you already have existing relationship(s) with UK AD(s), it may be easier for you to get the watch(es) in the UK. If you have currency other than the GBP, you can time your currency exchange to get a final price that is better than the US AD offer.

As martinr mentioned above, you have to deal with sales tax in the US which can get a bit tricky for visitors.

Both the 5130P and the 5170G-001 are great watches!

I didn't....all this was a bit impulse and if I don't get instant gratification I tend to lose interest. The seller wouldn't move on price and I have moved on! Cheers
