5711, BLNR, and ....

Hello TRF:

I currently have a 5711 and BLNR in my two watch "collection" and I'm in the market for another watch. I have owned many watches but find myself coming back to Patek and Rolex.

The big question is what should be next?! I dress business casual to work and pretty casual on the weekends. I'd love to stay around $10k-ish so I'm thinking possibly a vintage Calatrava (preferably not a hobnail dial) or maybe a vintage Rolex like a 1601...

Any recommendations for a Calatrava in that price range? (Slightly smaller sizes are okay with me). What reference number for the Calatrava? Which metal is best for retaining value? Suggestions of other watches to complement what I have are welcome if you feel there is something better than Calatrava/Vintage Rolex.

Thanks in advance!

Nothing in the $10k range is going to be better than your two pieces now other than a Daytona (if you like Daytonas)

Given the budget and the watches you already own IŽd probably add a vintage DD.

I think a white face SS Daytona from the last generation. The chronograph helps round out the collection and I assume your 5711 is the blue face but if white, then black face Daytona.

Good idea but I think you can even get older PM with zenith movement for $10k

Nothing at that price point from Patek speaks to me. The vintage Calatrava line feels very delicate and honestly doesn't stand out in any respect from the hoards of slim gold dress watches of that era. Modern Calatrava is a loveley line, although not in your budget.

There are some very used Lange dress watches at that price point though, as well as AP, JLC and other brands.

For a bit more a Red Sub, or a blue Tudor Sub with nice patina.

Frankly. Given that combo, mine is kind of similar being a Aquanaut and BLNR, I have a hard time adding a third watch to the lineup. As it is my Patek and GMT duke it out for wrist time.

But if you had to go that route, honestly I would look at one of the other classic watches out there like a PAM base or a Omega Speedmaster Pro and pocket the other 5k.

For a vintage Calatrava, have you looked at the Reference 3445? It was produced in the 1960s-1970s with a decent size case even by today's standards at ~35mm. It was an automatic Calatrava with date, which makes it more functional. It is not a rare watch at all though since it was produced for 20 years. It came with a plexiglass crystal, but was later fitted with a sapphire crystal during the last couple of years of production.

I have the same exact same two piece collection... I'm on a few lists for some difficult pieces, but I think my next watch will be a Seiko SKX007J.

Hate to be boring, but how about a Rolex Sub?

Looks like you have Sky and Sea covered, how about a Land watch? If you're feeling adventurous: an Explorer 1016, or Daytona 116520, if you're going for distilled essence & beauty you can't beat a Patek Calatrava 5196 manual wind
