Thanks, guys. It's fairly small, so it might end up as a surprise gift for Nancy. She's been wanting a pocket watch for a while now, and this just might fit the bill.

Absolutely beautiful vintage pocket watch, Al! Congratulations on a marvelous find. A great addition to your already-fine collection of pocket watches!
Is it running?? I hope you won't have too much to do in that department.

"runs well & keeps time with a stem-wind, stem-set movement. This one is from the late 1890's according to the watchmaker...the mechanical movement is complete & fully operational. You push the crown in to set. It is a bit stiff, but the time does set." I'll have my watchmaker go through it when it arrives.

Nice looking piece Al, if only these old watches could talk, like where has it been and what has it seen in all those years of it's life
A great addition to your already interesting pocket watch collection |

That's part of the attraction for me, Phil. Also recently gotten interested in vintage watches with caseback engravings, wondering who the giver and recipient were and the circumstances surrounding the gift.

When I see an oldie that could use some help, I think of it as a rescue..
Like a stray that just needs a bit of food, a clean up and a scratch behind the ears...

Where is his family? I am sure they would like to own it, I certainly would if it was mine. I did a google of the name and story but found nothing so I guess it's going to get forgotten to history as a lot of these things do. |

Very nice Steve, great to see these vintage pocket watches. Here's my 1865 chain fusee, key wind & key set. The setting pinion is a bit worn and I'm afraid of the key slipping and marring the dial, but it does get wound a couple of turns occasionally

One of my old favourites, a late 18th century London made verge fusee pair cased silver key wind pocket watch. (How's that for a domed glass)
