So I like to consider myself knowledgable but am in no way an expert and in this case Id rather hear from those truly in the know. So to all of you who are experts, whats the difference between an A serial and D serial GMT other than the SELs and lug holes? One of my ADs has an A serial with all boxes and papers but thats in serious need of a refurbish by RSC. I think they would want to replace the crystal, possibly the bracelet, and the spring beneath the bezel (?). And what would a going rate for this puppy be?l.......I am figuring $3400-4000 because of the work that needs to be done. So let the opinions fly!

Oh and by the way this jeweler has 2 new hulks available for anyone interested. Im not a sub guy so my knowledge as to their collectibility is limited to what I read on TRF. They are being sold for sticker though :-(

I can't help with pricing but the GMT History site has the detail you are looking for.

The timeline will allow you to understand about when it was manufactured. From there you should be able to line up the differences.

You may be looking at a difference in the lume (Luminova / Super), markings on othe dial (Swiss / Swiss Made), Laser crown on crystal, lug holes and SEL.

Accuracy matters in answering your question even when you use the reference material. Are you comparing an A serial 16700 GMT-Master to a D serial 16710 GMT-Master II? Or an A serial GMT-Master II to a D serial GMT-Master II?

good consideration. i made the assumption that the comparison was with like 16710s.

Thanks - because of the overlap for several years many people don't look closely at the dial.

I've just purchased a Z serial gmt master II without papers and box, but completely refurbished for $4500. The greatest thing about rolex is that there will be no noticable differences between the 1998 and 2005 models. Only the details mentioned in previous post.
