Seeking help on 1016

Dear all,

I am new to this forum.

I have never been a watch guy, but recently something hit me and I became a little obsessed..

After some weeks of reading and studying, I have my eyes on 1016. I know it is a highly sought-after watch, and full set is extremely hard to find.

I have been looking on chrono24, and found this one.

https://www.chrono24.com/rolex/explorer--id6382394.htm

Can the experts here advise me if it is a go or no-go?

The watch was a 1972 1016, serviced by Rolex service center 4 times. Bracelet, hands were replaced.

Thank you so much!
Y

I've never bought off chrono24 because the unknown vastness scares me. I prefer the tight community of valid reputable sellers here, who frequently sell 1016s. I'm curious to hear what folks here say about this 1016.

Re: All Service Parts

Looks like the crystal, hands, dial, bracelet are replaced. Maybe even the crown.

If you are getting this as a daily wearer, and appreciate the lume at night, sure.

Not if you are getting a vintage piece, as it has no original parts left.

Thank you so much for the reply. I will check the list of vintage watch dealers, and continue my hunt for a 1016.

Thank you for the reply.

I was looking for a daily wear. The fragile look of some super vintage watches make me scared of wearing them everyday.

My question is, if I want to flip in the future, are the changed parts going to be a problem? In other words, what is more important, original box and paper plus service certificates, or original parts with no service?

Thank you for your patience.

Originality pretty much trumps everything for collectors of these vintage pieces, unless they are just so rare that anything will do. A 1016 does not fall into that category. As long as you pay a good price for this and understand that most of the parts have been replaced there is no reason it can't be a nice daily wearer for you or someone else.

Although 1016 prices have gone up a bit lately, this seems too much for one with so many service parts. Looks nice though.

Nice. But I always always buy B and P and originality. Need it all. Can always find it but it takes time.

How many years do you have????????

I'm not exaggerating I've looked for years and couldn't find a 1016 with everything perfect.

Sometimes you have to compromise.

Always go for original case, dial, hands (or at least tritium) and anything else is a bonus.

The "R" serial posted in a link above looks like a very fair price for the watch.

Lol. 3 things are true: (1) it does take a long long time to find it but I love the hunt; (2) I've never looked for a 1016 so perhaps with BP, it is the unicorn (but I doubt it); and (3) if you have to compromise, which I've never done, lol-x is right, go with condition.

Thank you all the comments!

I think this R series is perfect for everyday wear.

I message and emailed Eric. No reply whatsoever. Anyone here knows him personally? Is he an unfriendly person?

I've emailed Eric regarding 2 different watches on 2 different occasions months ago to which Ive never received an email back from him. I then called his "office" and spoke to his "secretary", left a message , to which I've never received a return call or email back from him.

You can draw your own conclusions.
