Birth year watch

Hi all,

Looking for some thoughts/tips on a birth year watch. Not sure what I had in mind, trying to come up with some options. Thought potentially a black dialled day-date.

Maybe a Pepsi GMT?

I’m a 1983 baby.

Any suggestions? I currently have an Omega Speedmaster FOIS, a nomos and a TT blue dialed sub.

Thanks in advance

I have a 1983 16800 matte dial Submariner and have been very happy with it. This was a transitional model with sapphire crystal and tritium dial.

Well, you don't mention a budget, so if money isn't a consideration, how about a Big Red Daytona 6263? Or on the other end of the spectrum, although still very cool .... how about a classic DJ?

You could also consider a 16750 as well.

Thanks all. The budget would be under 20k hopefully. Will look into some of these great suggestions. Thanks

Gorgeous. Finding a 1983 model is proving quite the search

One more shot. I love how the matte dials change color from dark gray to black depending on the light...

Very hard these days to find a 16750 with perfect matching hands -- these hands don't match exactly, they were replaced by Rolex at some point during service. Critical IMHO is having the correct, proportional fat font bezel insert. Absolutely makes or breaks the look of the 16750.

Right around your birth or just after, Rolex made the transition from matte dials to glossy dials with white gold surrounds... For some, this is the transition to what is considered "vintage". For me, matte is the way to go.

I like sans cyclops...but never seen an insert fade to that shade of blue...looks good.

I went though a similar thing as you recently and picked up an 1016 from my birth year.

You’re local, check it out sometime. I would like to see your 5513/1680 as well :)
