Setting non-QS models
I know that this has likely been addressed before but trying to search the keywords brings up so many threads that I figure it would be ok to ask again.
On the older date models before quick set came along, what method is the easiest on the movement? I always seem to have the urge to rotate when there is a 15 day difference. I usually opt for the 24 hour cycling and if it is more than several days off I will do it leisurely just advancing a day or 2 and letting the watch sit for several minutes in between. I recall reading that running the hours by too quickly is hard on the watch, that may have just been someones opinion or it could have been a qualified fact, IDK. The other method of advancing forward X number of hours and going in reverse past midnight always bothers me a bit. First it seems like there is never an exact amount of advancing/reversing that is necessary and second I hate seeing the abrupt backup of the second hand when you reverse the hands. In general I don't like to back-up but if it turns out that that is the best way to get there, that's the route I'd take. Thanks for the opinions or observations. |
