Icon12 Had to teach a jeweller a thing or two....

Went to one of my AD pals to play make a deal this past weekend. He doesn't have Rolex in his store but thats ok, I was looking at perhaps selling him my G series AK and buying an IWC that spoke to me.

When he took my AK to the back to get assessed, he came back with a puzzled sorta look on his face. He asked if I had gotten it from an AD and I said yes bc I did. He just had the head of my watch in his tray and proceeded to explain to me that rolex puts their serial #'s on the inside of the lugs and that there was no serial number on mine. Now, for a split second my stomach dropped. How could this be!!! This wasn't a grey market watch and all the paperwork I have is in order!!!! He stared at me with this "you trying to pull a fast one on me look". What do I do!!! HahahahaA ha!!! I then proceeded to, and ill admit somewhat proudly, explained to HIM and his watchmaker that the modern rolexes with the ROLEXROLEXROLEX inner ring have their serial #'s printed on the ring by 6pm. Him and his watchmaker both looked with their loupes at amazment to see that I am indeed correct, although the watchmaker was still looking at me somewhat defensively (aparrently they don't like you knowing something they don't?)

Anyway, I had a moment of chest puffing there and felt proud of my WISness but then they retaliated with a typical dealer low-ball offer so I walked out proudly with my AK and a smile on my face. Oh yea, my finace who hates my obsession with watches witnessed all of this so maybe now she'll understand that there are some benefits to being a watchnut. Albeit not many!!!

Nice. I didn't realize that Rolex stopped putting the serial numbers between the lugs on the models with the serial number on the inner ring. I see that your're in Philly. We are planning a GTG in Philly on August 1st.

Well, you both were right because on 4-5 years old Rolex watches, the serial and reference numbers were still engraved on both sides of the lugs in addition to the serial number on the inner bezel with Rolex Rolex Rolex.

Before I sent my Daytona in to RSC Dallas I took it to
store that trades in Rolex and from want I have told is good.
Making a long story longer. He sent it into RSC Dallas for me. Needed service report came back at over 2.2 k. I told him I wanted to see it RSC wanted to replace the gold tach bezel at a cost of over a grand. I said NO and then he told be it wouldn't be waterproof. I told him no. The tach bezel. Has nothing to do with it being waterproof.
So instead of a repair bill for 2300 it was 950 with shipping
One final note RSC replaced the crown at $120 and sent back a non-Rolex SS crown that I have no idea where it came from. Never complained because it came back at 12.

Never mind the bezel...a non-Rolex crown could surely affect the waterproofness.

They sent it back with a brand new 18Kt Rolex crown that lines up at 12.
Again no idea where the SS crown came from it was never on the watch and was returned in a bag.
