Swish77 I think you are a little out of touch with the pricing. Eric Ku is selling one right now for $40,000! It isn't even a Mark I, its a Mark II with No lume on the dial, an "incorrect" folded link bracelet, period incorrect insert too. Why? Because its tropical and its Eric Ku so he can ask what he wants.
http://10pastten.com/watch/ta753 On eBay a Mark II Dial only, again missing its lume, sold for $6000 by itself. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rolex-Oyster...p2047675.l2557 Mark III NO BOX or Papers sold right here for $27,000 three years ago (tropical) http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=307021 It appears one of the two watches listed by the OP has been Sold as the listing is no longer active. You can't even buy a full set mark IV unpolished for 17k so I think the Mark I is certainly worth a premium for its rarity. I think those might be the only Mark I's I have seen for sale in years. I would take a Mark I over a tropical mark II or III anyway but, thats a personal preference I suppose. Have you seen what Paul Newmans are selling for these days? Auction price I believe was over 1 million!! In stainless steel and from 1972. Vintage prices do nothing but go up. I saw a fuchsia bezel mark I GMT sell for $8800 less than a year ago and I thought it was nuts. Now you can't buy one for less than 10k. Not a full set mind you, just the watch itself. Thats a 15% increase in less than a year. What seems high today will seem cheap in another year. Better than the stock market!! |

If you know your stuff, you can buy stuff anywhere. I've gotten my best deals from Ebay and so have other collectors.
Jacek is not bullet proof, I've seen watches with mismatched / aftermarket parts move through his inventory before. I emailed the top 4 Vintage dealers about this Rare Tudor dial and they all told me it was fake when it was not: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=447681 Guess where I got the dial?? Yup .. Ebay. Ebay does provide buyer protection and PayPal provides Protection and your Credit Card Provides protection. So that 3 levels for protection. If you're going to drop 20k on a watch.. nothing is bullet proof except knowledge. Start by getting Books and Check out websites like http://rolexpassionreport.com/ http://stefanomazzariol.blogspot.com/

This thread started out with a "baby/bath water" drumbeat, so I was glad to see those dissenters chime in. The fact of the matter is, there are many top notch, trustworthy sellers on eBay. There are many ways that a buyer can get scammed--in or outside of eBay. Due diligence, buy-the-seller, etc. Always try to minimize risk.
