Thoughts on this 16800 please?

I'm new to this game... bought my first vintage Rolex, a matte dial 16750, a few weeks ago. Now I'm looking to add a Sub...

Are there any red flags with this one?

thanks!!

Here's a great link to 16800 different matte dial types:

Any more thoughts? The seller tells me that it's all original and hasn't been polished.

Does that sound right based on the photos?

Watch is thick but i dont think i would say unpolished....there should be a little camfer there. Likely polished but not frequently. Bezel insert is really nice but could be artificially aged. It is a really nice one.

See the camfer on the edge....your watch is missing that detail which normally is needed for a watch to be an original finish example aka unpolished.

Thanks! That's actually very useful.

I'm still thinking of going ahead with the purchase.. I wondered about the bezel insert but overall I like the watch and I guess that's what counts :-)

That looks like a beautiful example. I think the insert could very well be untouched, just faded, turning into a "Ghost" insert. If it was done artificially, someone did an amazing job. It looks too uniform to be artificial. Hard to tell for sure. It looks similar to the insert on my 1680.

I would agree with Swish's observations.

Gorgeous example with what appears to be a nice, originally faded insert!!!

I would definitely not call the watch unpolished, but it is still in outstanding condition.

i was thinking aged due to the faint dark ring around the bezel pip....could be lighting but also could be artificial.......not a deal breaker to be sure.

Agreed - insert looks naturally faded to me. Nice looking watch. What's not to like!?

You're in SF. I'd be buying in person from Jacek.

I've bought a watch from him in the past - his showroom is pretty fantastic.

In this case, I'd been looking for exactly this watch and this one happened to turn up elsewhere.

I've pulled the trigger but won't receive the watch for a few weeks. I'll be sure to post some photos once I receive it.

Well done. Full set? I think this is a really undervalued watch....gorgeous dial.....great insert......the no date version of this watch trades for almost 50% more....i would expect this premium to fade with time as folks begin to realize how nice this watch is.......i have both a 16800 matt and a glossy spider. Very happy with them as i am sure you will be as well. Cheers.
