GMT master 16710

Today, I has been offered a GMT master 16710, coke bezel. The seller said he bought it 25 years ago , and the watch has been on the drawer for 10 years now because it has stopped working at that time and he never get it serviced.

Sadly there are no pictures of serial number between the lug .

Im completely new guy in the vintage rolex world, so it would be really appreciated if having some help from experts here. Do you people think its worth 5000$.

Thanks,

Looks good. Factor in price of service, could be $500 or more depending what if anything is wrong with it.

Is it worth $5,000...sure. Even with a service you will be into the watch conservatively. Nice examples can be found for $6200-$6500.

As far as the watch being fake, Anson88061 is clearly mistaken.

Answered you on omegaforums....I still don't 100% believe the watch is unpolished/untouched without further clear pictures of all the lugs....that one shot of the lugs looks like it may have the chamfers slightly rounded....or it could just be worn away a tad from age....impossible to tell for sure with that picture. The watch has stopped and clearly needs @ least a service....you need to have a watchmaker open the watch up to make sure you're not dealing with anything catastrophic (as unlikely as that can be) just to be sure IMO. That's why I'm not 100% suggesting you jump in....I think you'd be able to make a better call with it in your hands/better pictures and the watch open to determine if $5000 for this (watch only I assume) is a good deal.

Sensui is spot on. If you are dealing face to face, get it opened up by a watchmaker to assess the overall movement condition. $5,000 to me, is a good deal.

I agree. One crown guard looks untouched. The other one doesn't. The lug at 10 (on the bezel) looks pretty clearly rounded. It's either lived a really really hard life which is beat the edges off the case, or it's been lightly polished a couple times.

The coronet on the clasp looks really nice, but it's not nearly as sharp as you would expect.

Or more is right. A routine service on my GMT was in the ballpark of $675 - and it worked. If this model does not work, I would expect to pay closer to the $1K range depending on what needs repair. Crystal replacement likely required too as the edges appear bit chipped in one of the pictures.

I personally would pay 5000, service it and you have a nice piece, even part of the original green sticker is still on the back!!!
let us know the outcome

If you are going to make a statement such as that, at least have the good sense and decency to explain why.

Just saying you think it is a fake is unhelpful and frankly rather unpleasant.

Regards

If it's full set with papers it's a good deal. My 16710 is good work horse and daily beater.

Thank you all.
I dont think it's fake GMT, possibly has been lightly polished though (Thank @Sensui, @JP Chestnut), As the owner said, he bought this watch from his early 20s (24~25 years ago) but stop wearing it for 10 years now, cause he thought its impossible to repair the watch @@. Is there any chance that a rolex watch can not be repaired?? .

Ahh, I got a mistake of currency exchange. The watch is 500.000 JPY which is just roughly 4500$. With that sweet price, I think Im gonna meet him in person this weekend and take the watch.

I will have the thread update with better picture this weekend.

Price is amazing.....everyone including yourself can see that.....a lot of times things are cheap for a reason.....I don't think there's anything not repairable in the watch but no one can say with certainty how bad things are until the watch is opened. That said, my experience buying with people in Japan on yahoo auctions and other venues shows that people are usually very honorable in what they represent. I won't lie, if I was in the market that's one that'd be hard for me to pass up @ that price.

The watch is not fake, that one person who said it is should be ignored. The rest of the members opinions are that this watch is a good buy, especially at $4500. Post some photos once you pick it up and then send it for a service straight away. I think you'll be very happy in the end.

I picked up the watch few hours ago, it looks better in fresh than I expected . Sorry for non-macro pictures, just took it by my cell-phone

Going to go to a watch-maker tomorrow to have it checked and probably serviced.

Thank you guyz, you helped me pulling out the trigger
