Excellent advice. Take your time, don't rush things. Perhaps entering your watch at a Phillips auction may be a good move. Yours looks much better than this one that sold at their last watch auction.

But having done a little googling and ended up here I see that it's too good for that. It seems to be in very good condition compared to some pictures I have seen. Since it has been in a box for several decades I doubt it has any non-original parts.

I like it but I do not share the passion of some here!

My question:
Who in the UK can I take it to for checking and to verify it's the real thing

Hi Bill: as you've correctly noted, you are potentially holding an extremely valuable item! It's a great story and I'm so happy for you. I would echo what others have said in terms of treading carefully. There are some well-known vintage Rolex dealers in the community and I would generally limit your advice on next steps to a few of them. good luck!!

I would love to own this , Waiting for our good friend Haywood Milton to arrive and give us a bit more vintage education . I believe this is a authentic 6542 ,

This would have a Radium dial ? , I am sure the plexi has been replaced or cleaned the dial plots seam flat to me .

Come on Haywood chime in please

Is this a Pepsi? So hard to tell. It still glows after all these years?

They're all blue and red. Some blues darken greatly. But, yes, "Pepsi"

X2. But, you could easily mistake one for being black and red instead of blue and red.

Thanks, some of the pictures I've seen of different Bakelite inserts look like Coke but I thought they were all Pepsi. I did read the Coke was first introduced on the 16760. Is this correct?

Damn that watch is perfect. Congrats! Don't sell that right away. Enjoy it.

This proves once and for all my life is pretty dull. Just the other day, I got excited finding an unopened and forgotten Hershey bar in one of the kitchen drawers. I thought I had won the lottery.

All I find are Hershey bars.

The late Marcello Pisani reckoned around 2,000 model 6542s were made. From what information I have, your particular watch was made with a case number towards the end of a batch of around 350, circa 1958.

Haywood Milton, UK

No, it does not.

As Swish77 says, case number suggests late 1957. Supply probably 1958.

Sweet Baby Jesus !!! That bezel insert is one of the best I've seen in a looooong time.. different bezel insert then Springers ? I guess they changed them back then too. The one in the auction although 1958 as well is a different type

No bracelete ?? Just imagine with box, papers, tags, receipt.. so happy for the OP !

I wanna do a back flip off Wynn Hotel into the pool 🏊

Incredible watch and an absolute terrific find, take your time with any decision you make in regards to that watch, if you end up selling it and regretting the sale it would be near impossible to find one like that again.
