15400 Blue Dial

My wife and I stopped by the factory boutique at Taipei 101 a week ago and put down a deposit (was told need 30% for the purpose, so I put around 35% for a round #) for a blue dial 15400. Was told it will be sometimes mid-2019. Yikes!!

Also saying that if there's a price increase next year, the price will be based on the price at pickup.

I don't mind the wait, but right now I am just hoping AP won't pull a Patek and jack up the price by 20%+ like what they did with Nautilus..

Was debating whether to pick up the black dial (no wait) or go for the blue. At the end decided to wait for the blue.

no way i would put a deposit down. Thats just me though. Unless its shipping soon and you have a delivery date that is a non starter.

Blue is the bomb! It will be worth the wait.

My contact at the boutique said they get many calls a day for anything blue. They got 5 calls alone for the 15400 blue dial yesterday. Crazy! It’s boutique only, so I’m not surprised.

I doubt that AP would jack the prices that much. Hmmm, maybe on the jumbo to keep up with the PP Nautilus 5711...

I hear you.. but since blue is the boutique only model, not sure what else to do other than playing by their rule..

If they do, and you disagree on the new price, are you able to get a refund? Or you can use this deposit for other purchase?

Personally, I cannot understand why people want to pay up a deposit. Esp it's from boutique. It's an easy to sell watch. It's not like they are specially ordering a hard to move or special/unique piece exclusively for you.

Yes, it is fully refundable. So if I decided not moving forward for any reason, I can get my money back.

I just picked up a 15400 in blue couple of weeks back. Absolutely love it. They are well worth the wait.

If you want it new, I guess that’s the only one way... but you can probably source one pretty quickly on the preowned market. I doubt they go for a premium... very slight premium at best. With a future price increase that may be a better bet.

I'd wait for the blue from a boutique if you can. SS prices are up across the board. Gray prices on a blue 400 are probably at a 25%+ premium to MSRP right now (quickly looking on Chrono24).

not all boutiques even require deposits. So its selective. I still don't like the concept in general unless its a special order piece you have to be committed to as they cant sell it easily if you pass. With this there is a list a mile deep, so i just don't see the need or the point.

The NYC boutique required I put a 25% deposit for a blue 15400 at the beginning of the year. From what I can tell there are 2 lists. The "interested" list and the "firm/deposit" list.

I put my name down on the first list in early 2017. My Sales Specialist said he would get in touch with me when they were able to start accepting deposits for 2018 allocations. At that point all the 2017 slots were spoken for.

They will not take an unlimited amount of deposits if they do not have the pieces incoming within a reasonable amount of time. I was okay with the requested deposit because they quoted a relatively reasonable estimated delivery window. It's not like the nonsense with the DaytonaC or Blue SkyD where the ADs really have no idea when one is going to show up.

I'm okay with boutiques taking deposits, especially for highly sought after pieces. Else, some customers put their name on multiple lists, and end up with the opportunity to flip for profit or pass. I'd rather know they have a watch allocated and reserved for me, and they know that I fully intend to buy this watch.

I've been on "a list" at a Rolex AD where no deposit was required. A year later, I don't think I was on any official list at all.

Yeah, pretty much the same situation. Earlier in the year they actually told me that they couldn't take my deposit as they haven't started to take deposits for the 2019 allocation yet.

Got a text from the sales lady that the 2019 allocation opened up, so I stopped by to put down the deposit. Was told a few people did the same earlier in the day (I showed up at around 8PM). Oh well.

Now it is just waiting. Like I said, hope AP doesn't change the price (or change too much) by the time I pick up maybe mid next year..

To think that in March 2017 I saw this in the NYC boutique.

Summer 2015 I tried a 15305st out of the case at the Miami boutique and couldn’t bring myself to spend that much!

I'd put a deposit down for 6 months ETA, but over a year no way.

Guys.

I was offered a one month old blue 15400 at 16% (roughly $3k above) above the list price.

Is it worth it?

Seems like a reasonable premium, considering the market conditions on this model. Govberg currently has one at 40% over list.

Absolutely not. There was one available at the Miami boutique like two months ago, didnt pull the trigger as didnt think it was worth getting no discount.

Would never pay over retail for a blue 15400. 202 different story.

Call around. They're out there. I always like having some coffees and calling around when looking for a hard to get model haha

I think that's the market now. It's boutique only and I talked to a couple in the last couple weeks and either told me, no chance of the blue dial unless I had purchase history or get on the wait list which is probably around 1 year.

I think there is little chance of avoiding a premium on a BNIB and even a LNIB like the two month old one you found.

With all due respect, I think people that say otherwise are basing it on the market from 6 months ago.

This is blue specific. Other dial colors are much easier.
