So it doesn't have a serial number at 6:00 on the rehaut? Just "ROLEX" all the way around?

Looks promising Joe. Need to post more pics of the rehaut around the 6 o’clock mark. There should be a serial number there.

So now the question is it worth sending to Rolex service company, I wonder if I called if they could provide some history maybe the original owner or where it was purchased because the certainly aint no Rolex store in that podunk town.

I think you purchased the property and the contents. Which means it’s your watch. Admirable it may be but rather naive to think the watch never switched hands from the first buyer. Only way it’s not yours is if you send to RSC and it comes back stolen. It appears you have gotten the itch for a watch. Get it serviced and if it comes back to you enjoy it.

No they want discuss that info over the phone or otherwise. But you’ll get a quote to service it. And what was mentioned below.

Yep, finding these things in the attic is a bit unusual compared to in a jewelry box inside the house. That’s one way to reunite the last legitimate owner with the GMT if it was stolen.

Looks good so far... Shine a light on the crystal at 6 o 'clock and see if there is a laser etched rolex crown in the crystal.

Hmm sorry, but i have my doubts on the gold piece on the clasp. Gold seems to be less available, but it could be mirroring of something. But Joe also said he doesn't see any serial. Should that also not be a red flag?

So Joe, do you or do you not see a serial on the inner ring at the 6 o'clock position? We don't need to know what the serial is, only if it is there. Also can and will you make a better picture of the crown on the gold piece on the clasp? I think it is just mirroring, because the other links are looking ok, but the crown on the clasp in a piece which get the most touches by getting on and off the watch. I also would like to see the inner side of the bracelet and then specially the gold pieces.

Just curious :)

I'm curious as well.

I'm better versed in the earlier models, but with better pictures (with the crud wiped off the watch maybe?) I think it needs closer inspection. I'm not seeing any of the typical 'red flags', even with todays "super reps", which have several issues that always jump out at me.

I think the easy answer is to go to Rolex.com, find the closest dealer and bring it in for them to assess. Get a service quote and have it renewed; it will either be scrapped (if fake), returned to the rightful owner (if stolen), or returned to you to enjoy.

All I find in my attic is mouse poop. I need a better attic.

I hate to be that guy but I’m quite apprehensive as well. Been on TRF for 2 yrs but no posts till recently? Just doesn’t add up to me. No harm in sitting back and watching the discourse though.

I find it hard to believe someone would have a fairly new Rolex watch (less than 15 years) that is legally owned, and just 'forget' about it. In an ATTIC no less! I'm gonna go out on a limb and say "no way, Jose." Don't get me wrong - I wish the guy could get lucky. It just doesn't seem probable to me.

To be fair, we don’t know the full circumstances, it may not have been “forgotten”. I quite often put valuables in my attic if I’m going away. Years ago I was burgled and the Police Officer who came said burglars will very, very rarely venture into an attic so it’s quite a safe place. I appreciate that attics in the US often have stairs but in the UK most attics are accessed via a hatch and ladder.
