Has eBay gone crazy?

A month ago I purchased from eBay Germany a new iPhone screen for my wife's phone.

I bought many before from different sellers, and numerous other items via eBay (watches too)

I haven't gotten the screen. It's shipped with UPS, and it is stuck in Hamburg. Nothing has happened for 3-4 weeks...

The seller is running around in circles, saying he has been on the phone with UPS, and they are searching for the parcel... OK... BS I say. He is stalling time. Why would anyone put this much effort on a 50 euro including shipping item???

I'd just send a new one or refund the money.

eBay took forever to make me possible to up this to a claim, but today that day was here. Sent ebay a short explanation as all the info was there already. (Shipped june 11th) This was payed for with Paypal btw.

To my amazement ebay responded within 5min with the conclusion that they will not issue me a refund since the item is shipped. Case closed nothing I can do.... WTH?!

Seriously? So as long as something is shipped, you are not protected by Paypal?

Is there anything I can do? I don't give a FF for the money, but it's principal.

I'm glad this wasn't a 10K watch purchase.

Speak with PayPal. They look at it as you need to prove it has been delivered.
Trust me, I know as a seller who shipped and the customer refused delivery .

Without proof of delivery (signature/tracking) I would have thought the seller was doomed.

I am surprised at your situation.

Yes so am I.

Just re-checked the shipping, and it was shipped june 1st, not june 11th. So almost a month and a half.

Called Paypal, let's say the nice lady I spoke with now also thinks eBay has gone mad.

She opened a case, 10 days more and it's a claim.

Your next step might be your credit card. But I would think either EBay or PayPal would have stepped up to the plate first and frankly I too would have started with EBay just to protect my buyer responsibility with them first. Frankly I might just contact EBay again just to make sure I was talking to someone who understood the problem before seeking satisfaction elsewhere.

eBay is a bunch of morons, I bought a Breitling there a few months back and they suspended my account for suspicious activity(seller accepted my offer, I didn’t pay immediately, he relisted it and I bought it again and paid immediately just so no one else could get it. Well when they suspended my account I was refunded despite the watch already being shipped. Took me 3 days to get my account back at which point I messaged the seller to tell him I was still interested. He was flipping out, thinking I was scamming him. All ended well though, just never was able to leave or receive feedback on the item

One of many reasons I don't use my eBay account anymore. Luckily for the majority of things Amazon Prime has me covered. Anything else I try to do without or seek alternate sources.

I feel your pain, man. That's really frustrating. Hopefully you can somehow manage to get the phone fixed ASAP.

Ebay has gone down hill over the years. I rarely, if ever, use them anymore.

I sold a few items on eBay after downsizing my household. The first thing I noticed is that shipping costs for larger items have become outrageous. I paid over $200 to ship a pair of speakers weighing 47 pound each via ground. The eBay fees have gone way up also. After deducting shipping and fees, I wish I had donated the items. I won't be selling on eBay again.

Have you been issued a tracking / waybill number by the seller? Have you tried calling UPS yourself?
I have experience of one eBay parcel shipped by Royal Mail disappear . Once overdue, I tried contacting the seller and asked him the way bill number. A couple calls later, parcel turns out to have been misdirected to Taiwan. Took a month to receive. Seller didn't help much, I had to make all calls myself.

This isn't going to be helpful but I don't really understand how eBay still exists.
They are VERY BAD for the sellers and pretty bad for the buyers. When you try to call them you usually talk to a guy/girl from the Philippines who's usually useless.

I try to minimize my exposure to both PP and eBay as much as I can.

You need to speak in person with an ebay person who are usually sympathetic and can be persuaded, and I find whoever gets to them first usually wins the case. I had an issue as a buyer with slightly damaged goods and thought I'd easily win the case, as buyers usually do, but the seller did as I think they spoke to someone while I was just writing messages.

I use ebay as an online store. I do not have an account and only buy "buy it now" stuff using a guest checkout. Then I pay with my credit card, I do not have a paypal account either obviously.

If something goes wrong, the only part I have to deal with is Visa/MasterCard.

I would NEVER use ebay as a seller.

EBay has changed.

They have gone from an auction marketplace to more of a store. Lot’s of fixed price items now

What bugs me most is, I had 1 no payment in the first 10plus years. Have had 5 this year. Wild.

Interesting too that now there are plenty of coupons on eBay. They are trying to up their revenue. The growth engine is now unsustainable.

Less useful to me these days.

Do yourself a favour, spend a bit more or sell for a bit less locally on free classifieds or forums.

eBay has little to no value today unless you’re looking for something completely rare or obscure in your local area marketplaces.
