Patience on Purchase?

So I like to think I'm a kinder, gentler and much more patient version of myself from years past. However, some things just try my patience so I thought I'd get others take if I'm being unreasonable to expect better. And yes, vent a bit.

< 2/3/20: Sometime before last Monday, 2/3 a BNIB Rolex with full papers is listed in TRF and other places

2/4/20: I notice watch, do my research and reference checks, and decide to pursue it. Seller has excellent feedback across multiple forums and sales channels. Also, its an actual company not a private individual. Contact him via TRF PM

2/5/20: We agree on price and terms. Wire Transfer, Next Day delivery. We agree on a price a little less than price advertised here but more than price advertised on another site. I like to be fair in my negotiations for the longer term relationship.

2/6/20: Go to credit union at 11am, money wired out of my account at around 1:30 pm since they are slow with manual wire processes. Sent seller picture copy of wire order to be on the lookout for it. Seller responds let me check. Last I hear from him that day. No big deal I expect to hear in the morning.

2/7/20: Contact seller at Noon, ask for him to confirm receipt of money. Answer "Let me check." No response after that. Call seller at 3pm, states yes he received it and forgot to text. States watch will go right out for Saturday 2/8 delivery

2/8/20: No tracking number, no communication and you guessed it...no watch. Seller states mix-up at Fed Ex office. I ask for tracking number, none given. Call seller, he gives me a tracking number but it's for an Envelope...not a box...and does NOT indicate package is in FedEx possession. Tracking number was created late Saturday, 2/8.

2/9/20: Not worried, excellent references, expect it all to be straightened out first thing Monday, 2/10

2/10/20: Call seller who claims watch is still at FedEx office. I ask why my tracking number is for envelope not box and tracking states label only created. Seller says he will go get it straightened out and that scans don't happen until the evening.

So now I wait to see if a scan happens tonight.

Am I right to be concerned and on the verge of being not too happy? Or is that jumping the shark a bit?

I would be concerned if everything went down as you described. It seems like a lot of excuses and not much results. I don't ship with FedEx so I don't want to make assumptions on the timing of everything. I hope everything works out. Good luck

Thanks. Yes I have text messages to show the entire chain of events. I always like to have things in writing to avoid misunderstandings.

You are not unreasonable. Agreed with dealer on the terms and he does not honour it.
I would be mad already but don't think it's a scam. With plenty good references here all should work out fine.
First and last time I would buy from him though.
No harm in naming the seller

I will if things don't work out. I think there is harm in naming the seller now if he makes good on everything. If not, naming the seller here will be the least of his worries, legally speaking of course.

To everyone who responded, thank you!

I’d be extremely concerned if I were in your situation. I’d be asking for a refund already

if that all played out as you say, yes I would be very concerned.

however, if he does have good references, you should be fine. it might just be an anomaly. not likely he will risk his business and good name for a few bucks.

sometimes shite happens. I hope it gets better and this works out. good luck.

Damn, I don’t know what to say at this point. I’d be pissed, but it seems like the seller is on the up and up. Well, hopefully you get movement this evening!

When you bring a package to a FEDEX depot, it is scanned in immediately and you can see it was received. The seller telling you it gets scanned in the eve by FEDEX is total BS.

After this plays out, please leave feedback in the Buyer/Sellers Who's Who sub forum. I wouldn't want to do business with this seller.

Patience on Purchase?

Personally - I would be livid.

Then again - when dealing with Trusted Sellers - Thanh (Takuya) has always been my go-to. Have also had great experiences with DavidSW and Patrick (Ocrolexguy).

Dealings with this kind of $$ and watches in general - communication overload is the correct answer. Period.

Communication overload it is an extremely good way to put it. When dealing with this amount of money that type of communication is absolutely necessary. Well put.

I wonder if I know who it is OP. There’s a trusted seller on here I bought a watch from and there was something wrong with the bezel. I have been PM’ing him for a year and he has responded to me several times saying, “oh I apologize and I’ll send you a new bezel” but then I never hear back from him again. This gentleman also has many great reviews as a trusted seller. I hope it works out and I’ll be watching this thread.

I suspect it might be based on this sentence...if so he has a partner in the business you might consider contacting.

FedEx just indicated package is picked up with delivery tomorrow! So hopefully this is soon all behind me.

Does the online tracking show that the package was picked up?

There may be no trouble ahead...but...

Every bad scam starts with a timeline like you posted. I hope you get your watch or a refund.

But I strongly believe the members here deserve to know about this seller as soon as you settle this. His abysmally inattentive communication over that many days is not acceptable.

It be pretty upset also OP... specially since it's a business and not an individual. But to be honest, it sound like laziness right now and not misdiredction or worse... theft.

They label could easily have been created in error as an envelope and when it actually gets scanned in it should show size and weight. Also, FedEx and the other carriers do not insure jewelery... it's up to the sender to have their own insurance or rider above and beyond $500.

I hate to say it but this smells a lot like Horology House, he had great references too remember. Suggest you name the seller and perhaps the senior members of this forum may assist you

If I do it will give the seller away. I will post a follow-up and a reference to the exact seller after I receive the watch and I've cooled down some.

Yes, says exactly "4:15pm Picked Up" along with the city and state of the scan.

Sounds like the seller broke two or three promises already. I understand people get busy, especially if this is a company, but expectations are high with this much money on the line.

Have you notified the seller of this thread?

Seems like the seller nonchalantly handles transactions of this magnitude which leads me to believe they are prone to mistakes.

Once they receive the wire transfer they have all the power and the buyers keep it polite because they’ve been emasculated.

I’d be prepared to lay waste.

I sincerely hope it works out and your situation is just some mix up and sloppiness, nothing more. I would be sweating bullets and mad about what you describe has transpired. Hang in there.
My one transaction with a trusted seller here for a non-Rolex watch was flawless. Price agreed, wire next day, payment received confirmation and watched shipped and tracking number provided. Watch arrived next day. I think many members see this quick turnaround routinely from trusted sellers.

I like to communicate in writing (email) on purchases so that I have a date stamp of communication to fall back on if the issue needs to go Legal. Of course, if the other party is non responsive that presents a problem, but I have used written veiled threats of going to the respective authority(s) and posting my negative experience on various forums if I did not receive my order within a certain timeframe. I have also contacted Paypal in the past and they have opened investigations on the vendor.

Glad to see the package was picked up. Look forward to you getting your watch this morning — will check in later to see how things go this a.m.
