Swap my D-blue

Hi guys

I’ve got a D-blue since 2015 and it still feels a bit bulky. I’m in love with the yellow DD since forever. I can get one from 1991 (birth year, Searched for it) and i love it! But it means that my D-blue has to go.. the dd comes with original box but no documents. And I might need to pay a little extra.

So would it be a good or a bad choice?

I wouldn’t trade what I already have for something else. I would just add another when I can afford it. Then again, I also decide if a watch is too bulky before buying it. Get whichever watch you think you will wear more and will put a smile on your face when you do.

Your call on doing the trade. But I don't think you need/should pay extra for a 1991 DD36 with no papers.

I wouldn’t make that trade, certainly not if you have to put in more cash. The 1991 DD will be 36mm if I’m not mistaken. That’s going to feel tiny on your wrist compared to the DSSD, hard to make the move to a smaller watch. I love the DD, will get one eventually... this isn’t an anti-DD opinion talking.

Sold my deep blue. had it for 3 years. I lost a lot of weight and it was just too big and bulky for me.

The plan was not to buy another watch. That didn't last long. Ended up getting a blue dial DJ41. It's hardly left my wrist. I love it. I love how thin it is, I lug the lugs, the stick markers, all of it. Personally, I don't think you could go wrong with a DD. I may sell this DJ to buy a WG blue dial DD lol

These two are polar opposites in how they’ll feel on your wrist. I’d advise making sure you are able to try on the DD to ensure you like how it feels when compared to what you have today.

Mmmmm, the idea of getting a watch that old with no papers would steer my state of peace of mind.

No it's not a dumb question, I daresay that many of us have wrestled with something similar ourselves!

If the blue Deepsea doesn't appeal to you any more, then go for it. A full-gold Rolex is something special, all the more so if it's from your birth year.

However, as some before me have observed, it's 36mm will feel and look a lot smaller than the D-Blue, so you have to be prepared for that.

Your watch, your choice, your money. I can't tell you what you like.

As a rule I will always look to add rather than swap. But it's not necessarily a hard and fast rule.

I have small wrists and I like 40-42mm watches (again, as a general rule). I don't think I would get on well with a 36mm. But I don't know that.

I have a deep sea and tried on a 36mm DD. The difference was way too much.

If you like the size of the deepsea but want something thinner and easier to wear look at SD43. The reduced thickness and 43 vs 44mm make a big difference.

If your heart is set on a DD look at the DD40 or DDII. Admittedly it will cost more but to be truly happy rather than settling for a size that is too small (assuming here) it's worth it.

I’d add to the Dblue, you’ll miss having a diver. As stated above a 36 mm day date is a whole different wearing experience, not to mention you lose the bracelet adjustability

I wouldn't keep a watch I didn't enjoy wearing. Make the trade. A 36mm DD has great wrist presence. I don't think you need a cash kicker here.

Seriously, you're giving up a hot watch for another watch that the rest of the field is a solid "meh" for. And giving up cash? Hell no.

Hey, I get it, sometimes you gotta just scratch that itch. If you're bound and determined to have a DD, though, I would certainly take a look at some of the DD40's out there. That way, if you decide the whole DD experience is not for you, you'll be able to get another D-blue without taking out another mortgage.
