Icon20 What is your Dream Vintage watch that your Money can't buy and why?

Mine is a GMT-Master 6542 Gold Rootbeer. Technically not a RootBeer as it wasn't known as one yet, but that's for you to decide.

The Pussy Galore. What a Beautiful watch that only Money and Very deep pockets can buy.

Launched in 1954, just one year after the regular Turn O Graph ( 6202) aka Submariners precursor, it was developed off of its (6202) basis with a modified bezel and movement. As we all know the 6542 are very popular amongst collectors more due to the fact no only being the First GMTs but also due to the bakelite inserts that make them highly desirable. The Bakelite's unfortunately would be a short run. Just 2 years later in 1956 they changed the Insert from Plastic Bakelite to Aluminum due to the fact the bakelite would tend to crack and break. It didn't help either that there had yet to be any crown guards as they weren't introduced till the 1675 model in 1959. This also contributed to the vulnerability of the bakelite.

Alright Enough of me rambling on. Whats Your Dream Watch?

Beautiful reference!

I have always loved the submariner. At one point I had seven. I still have three 6205, 5508, 16610.

I love the small crowns, but my dream vintage would be a big crown with military history and/or and explorer (3, 6, 9) dial.

Wow, I didn't realize you have all them. Very nice pieces. Ya a fat head would almost complete your collection.

If money was no object, I would probably try to find a good example of either a porcelain dial Daytona or a Milsub. It's nice to day dream!! Haha!!

6263 big red silver dial or 6542 bakelite. A 5517 would make it a nice trio.

My realistic choice would be a 1019 silver dial but prices keep going up and I'm seeing far fewer in a condition that matches said prices.

Right now it's a Tudor 7928 MK 1 gilt dial on bracelet. I'm sure that may change over time but it's been in my head for a long while. It's not that expensive compared to what is listed here but it would be my biggest purchase to date.

I'm still learning about this reference, though, so I'm not exactly ready to buy anyway. Still can't wrap my head around whether or not the MK1 case and MK1 dial have to be together to be genuine or if the gilt dial can be found authentically in other cases. I've read conflicting information online (even on the same page of one website) and most MK1 gilt dials I've seen in the last year have been in the MK2 eagle beak cases. That's what I'm loving about getting back into this hobby, the amount of research and information to learn.

A pristine Tritium untouched, non "service" anything, unpolished 16710 pepsi with full box and papers. Without a shadow of a doubt.

I only have two more watches on my "holy ish grail" list that will never be in my collection unless I get rich.

2. Meters First, Red Sub with great conditioned original bezel, bracelet, unpolished, and w/ papers. I don't care which Mark.

1. A Mil-Sub.

For me first is the USN issued 1665. Or the uber rare Canadian Navy issued Rolex Sub as only a handful were reportedly issued (I already have a RCN Tudor Sub)

Second is a Tiffany marked red 1680

Third is a gold 1680. I missed the boat before prices went insane

OK, diverging from the Rolex theme here, but my collecting is eclectic. I have always wanted a IWC ref 325 Portuguiser. Really not even a matter of money (which is how I originally read the title of this thread), try finding one ... by which I mean an honest one.

Daytona 6263, most beautifully proportioned and hands down favorite of the Daytonas. Only reason I don't have one is they are ridiculously expensive, as you all know.
